Dr. Jack Shephard
Dr. Jack Shephard is often seen as the main character of the series. He is a spinal surgeon and the de facto leader of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Jack has control issues and trouble dealing with situations that he cannot fix. However, this attitude of solving problems through reason has given him the ability to function well in crisis. Sometimes, if he feels guilt or pain over a situation he can't fix himself, he will do anything he can to fix it, even borderlining on obsessive. Jack is, most of the time, in control of his life, emotions and situation he is in and is able to keep a cool head in tense situations. Jack is also the half brother of Claire Littleton, although neither of them is aware of this. Jack has formed very strong bonds with Kate and Juliet while he has been on the Island.

since he must have pushed it, but told Locke he didn't, this implies he wanted the Losties to stop pressing it, thus he wanted the magnetic nastiness to happen...which furthers my theory that the "Others" (or "Hostiles") are working against Dharma...

Alternate possibilities...
1) Henry didnt push the button, but under Lockdown, that function is suspended, or looked after by some other means...
2) Henry pushed it, but said he didnt 'cause then Locke wouldnt do it later on, and Henry wouldnt be around for the fireworks...
I think Henry & Co are anti-hatch, anti-Dharma...and one by one have caused the demise of all the hatches that we now know to be in disuse...THAT's why he went there to the Swan in the first place!

Possible why: Ben is a double agent for Widmore

We found out in the finale that the lockdown does not suspend the countdown. What if Ben is a double agent for Widmore? Rather far-fetched, but if Widmore could get someone into the Other's hierarchy could prove to be a tremendous advantage against DHARMA.
That would also follow-up Logan42's theory that the Others are anti-DHARMA. This theory could explain why. Ben controls the Others, Widmore controls Ben and Widmore wants DHARMA out of the picture.

yeah and presumably all the technology used by the others was originally DI property. So I guess they will use what they need and destroy what they dont.

We don't REALLY know what caused the hatch to implode. Because Des turning the fail safe key is exactly when it did implode. So Henry MIGHT not have pushed the button...

true, but all the shake, rattle, and roll that was going on before Des turned the key didn't happen with Benry and Locke..... so I think Ben had to have pushed the button.
I am still not convinced that Ben knew every little thing about what was going on at the Swan station and what the button pushin was really all about.
