Default Your favorite pro sport and why

Hey there Lostiphiles,

I'm in the market for a professional sport to follow. Initially I was thinking soccer because it's popular everywhere in the world. Moments ago, at dinner, a girlfriend recommended hockey because of it's long seasons, rape & controversy free players (maybe that's a con rather than a pro? , it does have some international appeal (Canada, Scandinavia, Russia, etc.), and the fact that the Islanders are doing sucky right now means I would have an underdog to root for.

What do you all think? Recommendations and reasons why?

Is soccer really big everywhere in the world? I know it's like "the" sport in Europe, but I thought it wasn't that known in the US and Canada... Aren't hockey, baseball and football the more popular sports in America?
But those three almost don't exist in Europe (or at least not in Luxembourg^^)
My solution: Basketball! I think that's pretty much played everywhere. (But I actually prefer soccer, so go ahead and join a soccer team^^)

Pro Football (american football NFL) is my favorite. And Baseball would be second. I played soccer growing up and through highschool.
You really just have to find something about a sport you can identify with I think. A good way is to see what your friends are interested in. Since they are your friends you probably have simular interests.

I have to say the NFL. It's faster paced than Baseball and I think a bit more fun to watch. My second choice would be Basketball. Same reason. I guess it's all up to what you like in sports.
