Jin-Soo Kwon
Jin-Soo Kwon (Revised Romanization of Korean (RR): Gwon Jin-su, McCune-Reischauer (MR): Kwo(n Chin-su) is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Jin was born into a poor upbringing with his fisherman father which he has always been ashamed of. After meeting and in order to marry Sun, the love of his life, he was forced into working into his father-in-law's mafia-type business in which he takes part in horrid tasks. This has made him almost scared of what he is capable of. Due to this, he was over-controlling of Sun in their late-marriage stage. Jin is the only survivor to not speak the native language within the group - English. This has caused a constant language barrier but after Sun revealed she spoke English to the group, this helped him overcome this struggle and has managed to pick up disconnected words and phrases.

"Cloverfield"
I've noticed that since Transformers came out no one has been talking here about the "Cloverfield" movie trailer that aired before it.
For those who haven't followed this, it's another J.J. Abrams film that is coming out next year (in addition to J.J.A.'s Star Trek feature Whoo-Hoo!) and is code named "Cloverfield".
The Quicktime trailer is found here Apple - Trailers - 01-18-08
No one really knows what this film is about...it seems to be a monster movie, and one popular theory is that it's Godzilla 2. I think it could be that, or I read it could be (finally) an interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft's "The Call of Cthulhu".
Either way, it gave me goosebumps! Check it out.

Yeah I heard about it being Blair Witch style. I actually hope that's not true, otherwise I might not want to see it so badly. That whole shaky camera thing was fun in BW and on Battlestar Galactica, but I think it's a bit of a tired concept now.

Ha....
its fitting that the 3 of us are all over this topic...
transformers was HUGE by the way!....
so cloverfield... kraken/cthulu is a good idea but the trailer shows explosions and fire... trying to wrap my head around how a giant WET squid could do that. I mean if he was big enough, sure he could reach into the city and destroy things.... but i mean... JJ Abrahms probably wants to keep a little bit of realism... other monsters... possibly.
The reason they had the handheld shots was becuase those were the first scenes they shot in MID JUNE and turned around that teaser in 2 weeks.
it probably wont be all shot to look low budget ( handheld is an incorrect term ) but you can expect that yes it follows those people in the party as every story needs a protagonist.
yall should check out this site...

Actually Benmer, JJA has officially disavowed the Ethan Haas sites as not being at all related to the project. He said in fact "people have only found the first site, they haven't even begun to find my other ones" or something to that effect. More info is out there, but hasn't been found yet. Great marketing campaign, he obviously learned from the Lost Experience!

So who here has seen cloverfield?
I just rented it last night and I gotta say I was disappointed.
I think it is a very cool idea. I liked the way it was shot and everything.
and the monster was really great.
My problem with it was the characters.
I just didn't care about them, the whole time I was watching I was just waiting to see the monster.
What do you guys think?

At least we know some back story on Godzilla, but Cloverfield. geesh. What was the monster? Why was it tearing New York City apart? I know the characters threw their own guesses in about what the monster was, but I had already had most of those guesses myself. I mean what was the point? I can dig an open ended movie like Lost Highway or Jacob's Ladder but at least those movies were imaginative. It was cool when you actually saw the Cloverfield monster but for most of the movie they treated it like some sort of naked person being covered strategically like Elizabeth Hurley in Austin Powers. I hope that J.J. does a better job with the Star Trek movie.
