Default James Cameron finds Jesus tomb

The Middle East Blog - TIME

There's an interesting show about the discovery of Jesus coffin with Mary, his child, his father and Mary, and brother, etc. near jeruselum.

This would be interesting if it were true.

It may also be a fraud by the israeli's against christians. Should spark much debate.

I always thought the bit about Jesus rising was an exaggeration, I kind of think of his rise as more of a spiritual inner soul rise type thing.

My mom said that there is going to be a show on Discovery Channel (Sunday 04Mar 8:00 central) that is supposed to go into detail on this subject and explore the angle of how Jesus was just a man, with family and a "normal" burial. Sounds kinda Divinci Codeish.

As an atheist who is the daughter of a catholic school teacher- there has been lots of debate in my family You have to remember the bible is a historical book written by people's accounts of events. Much of it happened as Jesus was a man who lived and died on this earth. But just as accident / crime witnesses always differe on their accounts- people differ in their accounts of most things.

By definition all religion is a cult- including catholicism. By Definition. An acceptable cult, but nonetheless a cult- even my catholic school teacher mom can agree on that. So in my atheist "terms" religion is a cult that "got out of hand" so to speak. Sure, Jesus lived and there were 12 men who followed him and called themselves disciples, but as for miracles- did he walk on water- well go to cape cod bay when the water is just coming in and walk along and have someone take a pic-sure looks like walking on water!!! All things are not always what they seem.

I am also a huge amateur astronomer and have a bit of obsession with cosmology. When religion was "created" it was a way to explain the unexplainable. Just as Greek mythology- but placing the mythology into human form made it more "mainstream". Now- many doors are being opened in space and cosmology and the evidence for evolution is there.

Facts can explain the unexplainable. Answers don't need to be made up based on lore. And even theologians are starting to combine the two- even Stephen Hawking believes there is a place for God in science.

As for the tomb- could be - could not be- but Jesus was just a charismatic man who changed the history and beliefs of the world.

So the above are just my opinion , I know many many will not agree and probably be upset as to my definitions- but just my side of the "great debate".

A baptist theology student I was debating with once said I would go to hell for not believeing in god. My response was- well if there happens to be "god" making that decision somewhere, then as "he" created me he will understand my pragmatic view and need for scientific fact and explanation and will readily admit me to heaven!!!

Christian and Catholic priests can be so historically hypocritical. They can trust the historical fact of the Bible and some historical artifacts and places yet won't accept the very real possibility of jesus's bones and his family.

Religion is based on religious mythology. Religion is a cross between historical fact and mythology. Some parts are real and some are not. Christian mythology and Jesus mythology was elevated in the Bible and written in the Bible by members of the Catholic church and Constantine's leaders. They used the Jesus mythology for their own poltical gains.

The Bible is a story crafted by those in power, seeking to maintain power, of course they could not include anything about Jesus burial or that of his family and children.

A wise man , my dad , once told me NEVER to discuss religion or politics with people who may not agree or understand your beliefs b/c it can cause hurt feelings and angry words that cannot be contained . I know this is true . Religion has such a large range of beliefs and dis-beliefs that I wish people could keep their NEGATIVE ideas to themselves . I never judge anyone on their beliefs , everyone has a right to believe what they will , but it does offend me when someone disrespects someone elses beliefs whatever they are .

I surely hope you are not referring to me as I clearly stated they are my opinions and my beliefs, and I don't really care what anyone else's beliefs are. Not meaning rudely ( don't care) , but truly I don't care as there are too many other important things- like what kind of person you are and how you live and treat others. One of my best friends is a born again, and once I stated she was overstepping her bounds in trying to convert me- our friendship has been great. My neighbor/ friend is also born again, my mom is a catholic schoolteacher and my 6 yr old daughter even goes to the weekly AWANA program at a baptist church with her friend. I am even the godmother to a friend's child- after explaining that as long as she understood I would expose her child to religion but would not go to weekly church etc. I would stand up there in church and say I would raise her in a godlike matter. But who I was and how I was was more important than my "god" status.

The last time I looked this was a LOST forum . As I said before some subjects like politics and religion are better off not discussed in a place like this where a lot of people have a lot of differant opinions . I don't care what anyone else thinks either ( also not meant in a mean way ) and I do agree with the fact that organized religion is a big differance from one's personal experience with God . But , again there is such a wide range between the two . So , I will let it go at that . After all it is my choice to go to this thread or not now that I know what the subject is .

I wrote a story about this for my local paper. Interesting, but I won't say what I personally think about it. It's too late and I'm in pain...not a good way to post

Christianity is actually not a religion.
