Default Has anyone here run a marathon?

I've been thinking about running a marathon and think its a cool and painful thing to do. Anyone here have training advice?

I ran track and x-c in high school and college. The most i've run is 15 miles, but i think if i can run at least a half hour a day, I'd be in good shape.

I can't say I've ever done it, but I have a good friend who runs 5 miles almost every day. My brother was in the Army and he did a great deal of running. I'll ask them and get back to you.

"Have you ever run a marathon?"

"Do you like Gladiator Movies?"

I see the parallel.

After 12 years of marrage I found out something new about my husband. He's ran in a few 10 k's. I also asked the other two people who had some experience and the three of them said about the same thing. Run often to biuld up your endurance, get good running shoes, and remember to stay hydrated. Hope that helps.

I'm in the Marines and I know a female who is on the All Marine Running Team. She runs a lot and says to alternate between slow, long runs and fast short runs. Make sure you train different throughout the week, including running some hills. And like dragonfly said, hydrate! Watch your diet, and stretch really good before and after runs. I hope you have fun!

My dad trained special forces.... He ran different lengths with differing amounts of weight in a ruck sack for trainning.. He did this for over a year....

My uncle & cousin also have run marathons who weren't in the best of shape and still made it... this was only a 5k though...

Being you already I would assume in good physical shape shouldn't be too hard for you to train and do well in the race... Good Luck

I have not run a marathon, but jill21 and myself went to NY and Washington D.C. last summer, and for a week walked really far, really fast in 103 degree heat. I lost 10 pounds. Even the rain was hot. Ha ha
