Dr. Juliet Burke

Dr. Juliet Burke (née Carlson) is a member of the Others. She seems unhappy with her allegiance (particularly, it seems, with Ben's position of authority), and lives at the Barracks. Juliet is a calm, intelligent woman with a background in medicine, but unhappy with her private life and will do anything to get off the Island. However, it seems Juliet has betrayed her people and joined the survivors in wanting off the island.

Smile Read any good books lately? II

Finished the latest "Miss Juila",and am rereading Don Coldsmiths "Trail Of The Spanish Bit" series---many,many others--I read much too fast and cannot afford to buy books enough to feed my habit (about 3 paperbacks and a hardback a day)

Default Good Books

I recently finished some books on my holidays:

Bad Twin by Gary Troup - I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone here what this book is about. It was good, if a little dry, and offered very little information about Lost except that the Hanso Foundation is corrupt, which we already think we know.

Omerta by Mario Puzo - the last Mafia novel by Puzo, it was a refreshing move forward from the Godfather and quite enjoyable. Complex and full of interesting twists. A good read.

The Devil's Heart by Carmen Carter - a Star Trek: The Next Generation novel. Pretty much par for the course as far as ST books go, but it was interesting and the characters were very much themselves (this has not always been the case with other ST novels)

The Sicilian by Mario Puzo - a pseudo-historical account of Salvatore Guiliano, an Italian folk hero and his tragic end. Features a few appearances by Michael Corleone of the Godfather as he watches the final days of Guiliano unfold before him.

Good list--kind of a theme going--I prefer Ann McCaffery "Dragonriders" series, anything by Mursadies Lackey(can't spell) Mostly fantasy..I still believe one day I'll turn a corner and be in" another country"..I am in the future,45 years from when I first wished...Kind of a slow timemachine tho

I have nothing to do out here in the middle of nowhere, so I've gone through a lot of my books. In the past couple months I've read:

Eragon by Christopher Paolini (A poor boy comes across a stone he thinks will get his family some money, but it turns out to be a dragon egg. He must learn to raise the dragon and face all the hardships of being a Dragon Rider)
Ghost Boy by Iain Lawrence (An albino boy runs off to join the circus after being taken in by the 'freaks'. He feels at home among them, but he still can't get away from the prejudices of being different at the circus, where there are still two groups of people)
Dragondoom by Dennis L. McKiernan (A war between the race of Men and Dwarves over the trove of a slain dragon. A member from each clan goes off to seek a way to bring their own race victory, the two enemies meeting on the road and learning to accept the other while they quest for a way to victory)
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis (I think everyone's heard of this, especially with the new movie. Though I can't think of a way to describe all the books. They're filled with magic.)
The Dastard by Piers Anthony (A man trades his soul for a wonderful talent, but he does only dastardly deeds with it. A young girl meets up with him and tries to get him to use his powers for good, but to no avail. Things start to get complicated when the man starts to realize the full potential of his power.)

And I'm currently reading Yon Ill Wind, also by Piers Anthony.

As if you couldn't tell... I'm a fantasy nut. lol.

I read "The Communist Manifesto" for the 100th time last night, heh...Yeah. :O

Other than that, I have not done a ton of reading, other than news, and new polotics stuff.

Here's the last couple of books I've read:

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire. Maguire takes common fairy tales and children's stories and turns them into adult reading. This one is Cinderella based upon the perspective of one of the step sisters.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Cool book, but I'm not sure how to describe it. It's a story told by a teenage girl living in the South during the 1960s.

Right now I'm reading Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians. I've read most of her novels a number of times, but it's kind of like comfort reading right before I go to bed.
