Desmond David Hume
Desmond David Hume was the lone resident of the Swan at the time of the Flight 815 crash. He was discovered by Locke, Kate and Jack a month later after they had blown open Hatch. After his failed attempts to leave the Island, Desmond joined the camp of survivors. Following the destruction of the Swan, Desmond gained a mysterious ability to see flashes of the future, with which he predicted Charlie's imminent death.

Annie Goodspeed?
I was curious about Ben's childhood friend Annie. We know that Annie was an important person in Ben's childhood. He still has the doll that she made for him. And well I don't really have much to go on, Annie has only been in one episode. But anyways I was wondering if Annie could be the daughter of Horace and Oliva Goodspeed?

Well I think Annie is still alive, and since we know that Horace died in the purge maybe his death caused some friction between Ben and Annie. Assuming of course that Horace is Annie's father.
On the other hand if Annie is dead I think she died giving birth to Ben's child and the baby died too, So that's why Ben kidnapped Alex.
Alot of maybes and assumptions... just thinking out loud.

I always thought that Ben did close Horace's eyes because he had a strong emotional tie to him.. He was the one who brought him to the island, he was kind to him and caring and his own father was always blaming Ben for his mothers’ death, and a drunk who was never caring towards him. I always thought Ben held Horace in a kind of a respect and did feel remorse that he died but I am sure that is a sacrifice the island demanded and that is why Ben felt so strongly to Locke about making sacrifices that the island does demand.

I don't think I quite understand.
Your not saying she was dead already when Ben meets her and they became friends. Your talking that she would have died sometime after that correct, and that is what caused Ben to go over the edge? I don't understand how she is like Christen or Claire...
I'm sorry Aljoe07 I am not putting the idea down but I just don't think I fully understand your thoughts about this.. Could you clarify for me please???

Sure. I think Annie was a spirit/body used by the Island to help guide Ben to his leadership role and to who he has become as a person. As we seen before, nobody has ever been able to "find their way" on their own. For example, Eko needed his brother, Locke needed both Eko and Goodspeed, etc. In the case with Christian and Claire, if I remember right, Claire woke up to Christian holding Aaron when they were in the jungle. So we know that even though they are spirits, they can hold, touch, speak, etc just like any alive person. I think Annie was no different. She was alive at some point but not when she was friends with Ben. The Island, in order to get Ben ready, "killed" Annie. "Killing" Annie means the only other importaant thing to Ben is the Island. He has lost his family and Annie and does not want to lose the last thing important to him. I think that was enough to push Ben over the edge and lead to the Purge.
Hopefully I made it clearer. I am still thinking of other ways to explain it in case this response didn't help.
