I was watching an old episode last night. The one with Rose & Bernard's backstory. Where Bernard took Rose to the faith healer to cure her cancer. The faith healer's name was Isaac. Issac of Uluru. And I thought 'That's a biblical name, and it sounds familar. It has some connection with Jacob.', and it got me curious.

So I started looking stuff up and found out about the relationship between Isaac and Jacob in the Bible. Isaac was Jacob's father. Jacob's father! I began to wonder if there was a connection between Jacob in the cabin and Isaac (the healer who talks about how certain places on Earth have special powers).

I remember the episode "The Man Behind The Curtain". When I watched it the very first time, and Jacob started throwing stuff around his cabin (when Ben and Locke were there), I remember Ben yelling at Jacob saying things like "That's Enough" and "You had enough fun" and such. Even at the time, it seemed to me that Ben was talking to Jacob as though he were a child. Maybe a child with powers, but a child never the less.

Could there be a connection? What do you think?

I had the same thoughts. Then if you look at other characters names it gets even more curious. Sarah- jacks ex on the show is also the name of Jacob's wife, Jacob was born of Isaac (as you said) and Rebecca (no one by that name yet- the actress who plays Charolette is Rebecca Madder), Ben (biblically) is the son of Jacob, and Aaron is the grandson of Jacob. So what does it all mean? Are they just mindlessly pulling names which happen to coincide with eachother or is there something deeper? If some one is named Essau (Jacobs bro biblically) then were in trouble

Anymore, I don't think the writers are doing anything that they haven't thought about deeply. That includes name, clothes, probably what the castaways are eating.

I wonder if Jacob is a kid. I think that would be interesting. A 'special' kid. Kind of like Walt, but maybe more special? Or maybe just more experienced at being 'special.

I'm not sure about the names, but I definitely had the same thought that Jacob was a kid.

I had that same thought at one point. Or Jacob is a future Walt. One who has more control over his special abilities.

But now I think it's possible the entire plane crash was just to bring Walt to the island. Walt is Jacob's replacement. (?)

I still think Jacob is a little kid. Sort of the Anthony Fremont of the island, with all the adults stepping very lightly around him and doing thier best to keep him happy.

I agree that it seems that Jacob is a child.. I have thought that Walt could be Jacob (since he was special before the island) but have no proof..

so if the plane was to make Walt the new Jacob, could it also be to make Locke the new ben?

Do you mean a child's mind? Because we saw a flash of Jacob in the cabin, and he looked old to me- physically at least.

I think in the commentary of this episode the writers said that the situation refects the story of the Dali Lama and the Panchen Lama. The Dali Lama assigns a Panchen to find his reincarnate when he dies. The new Dali then assigns a new Panchen. Now where everyone falls in this equation is beyond me. Jacob= Dali Ben= Panchen? So is Walt= new Dali? Locke the new panchen? And what about Richard?

Maybe like Wednighter said, Locke could be Ben's ying....or his yang....whatever. Two halves of one Panchen?
