a rant in response to another:
I have my own take on Kate.
I watched "Left Behind" recently. I noted the parallel in the situations involving Jack and kate's mother from kate's perspective.
Her motivation to kill her step-father was to be her mother's savior. when she goes through with it, she feels as if she freed her mother, only to learn later that she did exactly the opposite her mother would of wanted. in fact, it could be argued that she added to her mother's oppression.
With Jack, he helps in freeing her and sawyer from the other's with a warning to run away and not come back. yet, kate plays the role of savior, and by consequence, only added to jack's imprisonment on the island by inviting John Locke, the one who blew up the submarine. if kate wouldn't of tried to be a hero, Jack would of probably escaped from the island with Juliette. Kate knows this and with it, the memory of a similar situation with her mother causes her to break down in emotion while with Jack.
Further...
Now we know that Kate is Aaron's guardian. You have to wonder if Aaron will be adversely affected by this relationship. You have to remember Claire's psychic from season 1. he warned that no other person should raise Aaron but Claire herself. does he possibly have a perspective into the future similar to Desmond's condition. if so, does he fall into the same trap that desmond initially did in thinking that one can change one's fate? if he sees aaron or anyone else harmed due to kate's guardianship, then i think its safe to assume that this is not going to be ultimately a happy relationship. I think aaron's place is significant on this show, and throughout the rest of the series, we will be tracking his development through life.
you have to wonder the differences between kate and claire that will ultimately cause a difference in aaron's upbringing. that could serve as an interesting character comparison to perform.
