Hey all, I am just now rewatching (again) Hearts & Minds because I've always really liked that episode. There is something beautiful and tragic and compelling about Shannon and Boone's relationship. Their stories in general have really stayed with me, for some reason.

One thing occurred to me during this viewing that had never occurred to me before (how FREAKING COOL is it that Lost episodes can still do that after so many viewings?/and how many other shows out there can do that?):

Do you all think that the flashback in Hearts and Minds was the first and only time that Shannon and Boone slept together? I'm starting to think it's not. She's so matter of fact afterwards, "put your clothes on, Boone" or whatever it was. She wasn't freaking out at all like you might expect of a woman who just slept with her stepbrother. He isn't freaking out either, just vaguely shellshocked.

If their relationship had already been physical for a long time that would help explain why Boone had such a hard time pulling away from Shannon. Sex can cause emotional attachment. Sometimes very unexpectedly and to a profound degree. I keep reminding myself that, according to the show, they had only just slept together the night before the crash so it was still really fresh in Boone's mind during all of this days on the island, as was her cold rejection of him afterwards. Harsh, but really what else could she do? It's not like she could really encourage it. And she was totally screwed up anyway and probably hated Boone for knowing that about her.

I wish they could have had a goodbye scene before Boone died, but I know the point of they're being apart during his death was to show that they had finally let eachother go and were starting a new life independently of eachother, but still...

So do you think it was just a crazy one-time thing between Boone and Shannon the night before the crash or had it been going on for a long time?

Your theory sounds plausible to me, but I actually don't think they've had sex more than one time. Remember the look on Boone's face when Shannon began to kiss his neck? Erm...Didn't look like he was used to that to me^^
