If "the universe has a way of course correcting," as Mrs. Hawking tells Desmond:

1.) Why is Hawking so worried when he buys the ring? Wasn't it his destiny to be a coward and not ask Penny to marry him?
2.) Why did the Dharma Initiative work so hard to change the numbers?
3.) Why does Ben care so much about the arrival of the boat and the supposed deaths of everyone on the island?

It seems safe to assume that Hawking is right about the universe when we consider the unavoidable death of the guy in the red and white striped socks in Desmond's time travel episode and Charlie's unavoidable death; so what gives?

Exactly! I have a post called I think WHat Ben said in TTLG where I thought it was strange or out of place to say every LIVING person on this island will be killed.. Like is there another type of person that can be killed or is there another group of people that can't be called LIVING?

I think he means every LIVING person like every SINGLE person. Meaning all of them. Ben has a strange way of talking sometimes but I don't think it shows anything for the future episodes.

i agree that there is deeper meaning to that statement. i believe that there is an important plot point about the "dead" people on the island not really being dead. so the living people will be killed but the ghosts of the island will remain. thats my take.

"Every LIVING Person on this island...Will be killed. That means the zombies are gonna still be alive and kicking."


That about sums this thread up.

Well THAT is the reason it stands out... If someone is going to be killed you would assume that they are living before.. WHY POINT IT OUT???
