Razzle dazzle!--everyone's favorite love to hate characters

I watched Expose again yesterday and, I have to say, it's really grown on me. I admit I felt really cheated when it aired. Like, "Where are the characters I actually care about? I have to wait ANOTHER week for them?? What's that all about?" But I get it now. A couple of especially clever moments I really dig in Expose:

1. Zuckerman tells Nikki he wants her back for another episode of Expose. She says: "I'm just a guest star. We all know what happens to guest stars." Ironic because the character Nikki was a guest star on Lost who died herself. Ha ha ha!

2.) Nikki says "I hope we never end up like them" after seeing Shannon totally abuse Boone in the waiting area. Ironic because, of course, they DO end up just like Shannon and Boone: dead from some horrific accident on the island. Still, it was nice to see Shannon and Boone again, if only in a flashback. I liked both those characters.

[On a side note: I think it's important to note that Shannon was never more terrible to Boone during the whole series than she was in the Sydney airport the morning after sleeping with him...Maybe because she knew she had done something really terrible and felt awful about it? Or maybe because she really did love Boone and was pushing him away because she was so insecure and screwed up and because she wanted to leave him before he would leave her? Remember Shannon said to Sayid: "Eventually everyone leaves me"? Thougths?]

In one of the Sun episodes, a different couple in the waiting area says EXACTLY the same thing about Sun and Jin, after seeing her fawn all over him like a slave. "I hope we never end up like that." Makes you wonder what other bystanders thought of our Losties while they were going about their business at the Sydney airport, doesn't it?

3.) How GREAT is it that the Expose script parallels what happens on the island? I mean, yes, usually what happens on the island during a particular episode parallels the flashback for that episode, but still.... Corvette discovers that Mr. LeChat is the Cobra but then dies before she tells anyone. Nikki and Paolo discover the beachcraft and the Pearl station before anyone else and Paolo discovers the Others before anyone else but dies before he tells anyone. More than just knowing about the Others, Paolo knew that the Others knew about them and were planning a kidnapping of particular Losties! I'm just waiting for the moment when someone discovers the broken Russian nesting dolls in the toilet and is like "huh??". Don't you love those moments where you know more than the characters?

4.) And the whole "Paolo lies"/"paralyzed" thing... Cuse and Lindelof MUST have had their grisly demise in mind when they named him Paolo.

5.) You gotta love how the Lost audience hated those two characters and wrote prolifically about wanting them to die a horrible death and then Cuse and Lindeloff have them buried alive. Interactive TV.

Still, though, I can't find the close-up of Nikki's eye that is included with all the others at Lostpedia. I have found all the others (and 2 that weren't listed). Anyone know what scene that close-up is in?

I actually really like this episode

I was totally excited after I saw it, and when I came here and saw everyone totally hated it, I was kind of confused.

I totally do^^ My favorite scene is when Juliet and Ben come walking in the hatch when Paolo is there too and they talk about how Ben wants to kidnap "the three of them"(Jack, Kate and Sawyer, who else^^). Paolo actually could have told the other Losties about that! But nooo, he was too interested in hiding the diamonds from Nikki....Stupid people..

I always thought this was one of the funniest episodes ever. An episode like Expose' is one of the things that separates LOsT from other shows and really gives it a little bit of everything. LOsT has drama, suspense, mystery, and comedy.
The people that don't like Expose are the same people who skip to the end of a book to find out whats going to happen.
Also the thing is that the events in Expose were originally planned to cover several episodes, but the writers condensed it down to one show as a response to all the fans that said: "who are these people! we hate them!"
And what better way to get rid of them than bury them alive?
but nope people still complained about that.

I didn't like it when it aired either.. But watching it again it does help even with the Timeline of whats happened on the Island and I did like that, kinda everything going on from another perspective! That and who couldn't love the ending.. Buried Alive, the writers and producers really delivered on the killing of Nikki and Paulo!!! Plus wasn't it this episode where Sawyer admitted what he had done to Sun.. Sorta where Sawyer is loosing his old ways and turning into the character he is now??

I liked the episode Expose too. I think the first time I missed the first 15 minutes. But I recently watched it on DVD and now think it was one of the best shows of season 4.

I believe it's what they call in the industry a 'stand-alone' episode. It's created to pull in more of an audience who don't watch the show because they've heard it's got a huge story arc and if you don't watch it from the beginning you won't know what is going on. Just an illusion, really with Lost. And typically, the 'timeline only' fans don't like care for them because they've waited all week to get on with the main story lines.
