Honestly I don't think that the Libby seeing Desmond on the island would have been the same as when Jack and Desmond..

Jack and Desmond just crossed paths in the stadium.. Took a second to figure out where they met and Oh yea I do know you..

With Libby on the other hand, if someone gives you a sail-boat to race around the world that is someone you know and remember!!! I think she would have been shocked to find out her husbands boat crashed on the same island she crashed on by this guy who was just sailing in this race for LOVE.. To regain his honor.. I really really feel that they would have easily remembered eachother!

I think she would purposely try and not be seen by Desmond. And by that time she would have already got Hurley drunk and got the info she needed. So by the time Desmond came back Libby would have already infiltrated them. It wouldn't be a huge thing. Desmond meeting Libby wouldn't mean much. They would remember each other but it wouldn't be a big deal. They'd call it coinsidance and have a nice chat then its over. But Libby infiltrating them is a big deal. Therefore if Michael didn't kill her the time he killed her she would have done something horrible. Why do you think the writers made him kill Ana and Libby? I think there is a reason why Libby died and I think that if Michael didn't kill her then the effect would be horrifying. Notice how fast Libby and Hurley's relationship moved? Also notice after she kissed Hurley (Which she did only once) and they were walking back to the beach you see a gruesome look on her face right before her flashback. Also remember they showed tons of Libby and Hurley stuff. It seems like they wanted to put tons of little easter eggs showing Libby is DHARMA!
