Dr. Jack Shephard

Dr. Jack Shephard is often seen as the main character of the series. He is a spinal surgeon and the de facto leader of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Jack has control issues and trouble dealing with situations that he cannot fix. However, this attitude of solving problems through reason has given him the ability to function well in crisis. Sometimes, if he feels guilt or pain over a situation he can't fix himself, he will do anything he can to fix it, even borderlining on obsessive. Jack is, most of the time, in control of his life, emotions and situation he is in and is able to keep a cool head in tense situations. Jack is also the half brother of Claire Littleton, although neither of them is aware of this. Jack has formed very strong bonds with Kate and Juliet while he has been on the Island.

He also feels responsible for Tricia Tanakawa's death and that of her cameraman. They died when a meteorite (Hurley says: "or meteorite...I don't really know") hit his Chicken Shack.

yeah several of the the characters on LOsT have killed people. But almost all of them have known someone who died. And many of the characters feel somewhat responsible for those deaths.
Here is a list of the people that have outright killed someone.
Eko-- nine
off island killed 7 Nigeria gangsters
on island killed 2 others when they attacked the tail section surviors
Sayid -- six
off island killed Omar to help Nadia escape
part of a fireing squad that executed a prisoner
on island killed 4 others in the season 3 finale
Sawyer -- four
off island killed Frank Duckett who he thought was the real Sawyer
on island killed and unnamed other
killed Tom
killed Anthony Cooper
Ana-Lucia -- four
off island killed Jason McCormack the guy that shot her and caused her to lose her baby
on island killed Goodwin
killed Shannon
killed unnamed other that attacked the tail section surviors
Bernard -- three
on island killed three others with dynamite trap
Jin -- two
on island killed two others in season 3 finale
Michael -- two
on island killed Ana Lucia and Libby
Kate -- one
off island killed Wayne
Locke -- one
on island killed Naomi
Charlie -- one
on island killed Ethan
Hurley -- one
on island killed Ryan Pryce with the Dharma van
Juliet -- one
on island killed Danny Pickett
Sun -- one
on island killed Colleen
Nikki and Paulo -- one
off island killed Zukerman to steal his diamonds
Jack -- one
on island Euthanized Edward Mars
Ben -- one
on island killed his father
This is just a partial list of what I remember.

I just realized that Charley wasn't connected to any deaths off-island. Seemingly it wasn't until Ethan that he had been violent in any way. He might be the only character not connected to a death off-island, even indirectly. Hmmm...

oh I forgot about Mikhail
he killed the two chicks in the looking glass station
and he killed Bea Klugh
and I guess you could say he killed Charlie too.
There are probably some others I have forgot about too.....

Boone, Shannon, and Charlie never killed anyone off island as we know of right now. Yet they died....Hmm maybe people that don't kill people die.

Also Claire is responsible for her moms death.

yeah its weird.
Boone and Shannon have never been shown to kill anyone on or off the island. I think Boone felt responsible for his housekeepers death when he was a child. But from what I remember Shannon never killed anyone or was ever shown to be even remotely responsible for anyones death.
yet they were the first characters to die on the show. Well the first main characters. I guess the pilot and the fed marshall Edward Mars die/were killed before.

You know something I just noticed with character connections on the island.. Someone on the island was somehow related to another who had something bad happen to them..

Like Jack let Shannon's dad die and saved his now ex wife Sarah.. Shannon then is kicked out on her butt to fend for herself..

Lockes biological father (who did steal his kidney) is also the man Sawyer feels responsible for the deaths of his parents

Kate told Cassidy that she would call the police on Sawyer and is the reason he ends up in prison

There are more I just can't think of them right now.. Add to the list if you can =)
