Charlie Hieronymus Pace

Charlie Hieronymus Pace was a survivor from the middle section of Oceanic 815. Before the crash, Charlie was the bassist and main songwriter for the rock band Driveshaft. When Flight 815 crashed, Charlie was snorting heroin in one of the plane's bathrooms. Charlie's drug addiction and crippling self-doubt were the biggest obstacles in his life. Like many of the Losties, the crash provided Charlie with a fresh start. On the Island, Charlie formed a relationship with Claire Littleton and her son Aaron.

After avoiding deaths foreseen by Desmond several times, Charlie finally died willingly to save the other survivors. He drowned on day 93, and his death is yet unknown to anyone except Desmond.

Default Ben and Roger's Last Name

We have been told by the producers that everyone's name has a deeper meaning in some way. What do we think the meaning of the name Linus is? Is it an anagram for something? I Googled "Linus" and only got something about a software engineer and my original thought, Linus from Charlie Brown. He always had a saftey blanket, maybe for Roger this safety blanket is alcohol, and perhaps for Ben it is his one birthday present, the wooden figure of Annie.
Just a Thought.

I think whats important in the Charlie Brown reference is, Charlie Brown was the star and Linus was his friend following him around with his blanket. No matter how much Ben tries he won't ever be Charlie Brown, but just Linus.

Wasn't there a Greek philosopher or leader named Linus? I will try and investigate that - that might tie into the ruins.

Linus (mythology)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Linus (in Greek, Linos) may refer to any of three sons of Apollo from Greek mythology:

Son of Apollo and Urania, he was killed by Apollo during a contest.
Son of Apollo and Psamathe, whose father was the King of Argos. She feared her father and gave the infant Linus to shepherds to raise. He was torn apart by dogs after reaching adulthood and Psamathe was killed by her father, for which Apollo sent a child-killing plague to Argos.
Son of Apollo and Terpsichore, he taught music to Orpheus and Heracles. Heracles killed him with Linus's own lyre after he reprimanded Heracles for making errors. According to other sources, he was the son of the muse Kalliope and the inventor of melody and rhythm. [1]

Other sources have Linus as the son of the muse Urania and Amphimarus (a son of Poseidon). He was killed by Apollo because he rivalled the god in his musical skill. [2]
Linus may have been the personification of a dirge or lamentation, as there was a classical Greek song genre known as linos, a form of dirge, which was sometimes seen as a lament for Linus. He was therefore described as a son of Apollo by a Muse ,(Calliope, or by Psamathe or Chalciope, Apollod. i. 3, § 2 ; Paus. i. 43. § 7,787-ii 19. § 7 ; Eustath. ad Horn. p. 1164),'or of Amphimarus by Urania (Pans. ix. 29. § 3).

The Lament Idea seems appropriate for the Linus clan.

And now that I think about it - wasn't there a pope who was Linus?

Red face The meaning of the name Linus and Jacob

I have just seen this post and thought I would look it up for myself. This is what I have found.

Linus

The boy's name Linus is pronounced LYE-nus. It is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "flax". From Linos. Biblical: a Christian companion to Paul in Rome. Greek mythology: Linus is the musician son of Apollo.

To me it is saying it has a christian meaning and I was sure that so did the name Jacob.

Jacob

The boy's name Jacob is pronounced JAY-kub. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "he who supplants". Biblical: the son of Isaac and Rebekah and twin brother of Esau. Jacob fathered 12 sons and a daughter, who became the ancestors of the nation of Israel, the name Jacob himself received after wrestling with an angel.

What I found most interesting was that Jacob and his children became the ancestors of the nation of Israel. I think that Ben is trying to create his own nation on the island just like Jacob. Hence why he is so determined for the women to be able to have children.

I don't know whether it is true it's just my opinion.
What do you think?

What I find interesting is the tie-ins to Lost mythology here.

Linus the son of Apollo (Apollo candy bars)

Linus the infant given the Shepherds to raise (Jack?)

Linus torn apart by dogs leading Apollo to send a child-killing plague (the pregnancy problem) to Argos.

Linus the musician (make your own kind of music)

Seems to me a lot of the clues were already there before Ben ever introduced himself formally to Jack.

As for Ben forming his own nation of Israel, the only problem I have with this otherwise sound theory, is just how much can they expand as a new nation? The Island is only so big, where are they all going to live? Or, does the tv show really tie in to the Lost Experience, to the point where the virus manufactured by Thomas Mittleverk will wipe out a large portion of the Earth's population, allowing Linus to lead his people into their own chosen land?

Frank: It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Jane: Goodyear?

Frank: No, the worst.

Yeah I understand exactly what you are saying. I think you have some really good ideas with the tie ins to lost mythology. I don't know where they are going to take lost but there are so many theories surely someone has to be right.

could it just be that in order for the others to survive, they need to reproduce, the pregnancy problem has got to be tied in with the healing powers of the island.
Maybe you can answer a question i have Jadie 90?
In the episode when we saw Ben growing up on the island and the wiping out of the darhma group, Ben was recruited by a man he met in the woods, I believe that same man is the one in the blue shirt in the camp of the other in the episode( through the looking Glass), sorry i don't his name, he is one of the others.
But my question is if it is the same man he appears not to have aged a bit and ben has aged 20 - 30 years ??????????????????????????????
