Alex

This thought just occured to me... if babies haven't been surviving on the island, then where did Alex come from? Her and her boyfriend are the only Others I can remember that aren't adults. Was she born off the island, or are the pregnancy problems a new thing? I still think it's true that Ben's her father, but I guess that could be another twist.

Ben can't be Alex's father, unless she is not in fact Danielle Rousseau's daughter. As evidenced last night, Ben was not born on the Island, but he definitely lived and work there for a long time. Danielle's husband (Alex's father) was apparently killed by Danielle (or someone else) in some way to do with a "sickness" 16 years earlier. Because Danielle was already pregnant when they arrived on the Island she was immune to the condition faced by women who do get pregnant on the Island.

By the same reasoning, and as a means of example, Claire is still alive even after having Aaron. The only reason she got sick is that Ben activated some kind of implant, in order to help Juliet infiltrate the Losties.

I think it is safe to assume that Ben is certainly not the biological father of Alex. He has simply raised her to believe that he is her father.
