I think you are right about it being Desmond, because on Daybreak last night the preview was Des diving into the water to save her. If the whole E.T. theory does not happen(shame), the fact that he has now saved her life twice if you count the lightning is going to get him major points. I still hopes that he waits for Penny. Charlie should get Claire, so he won't get all dark and depressed again.

We were left with that cliff hanger from last season where she gets the call... I hope desmond hasn't seen Castaway... cuz then he may lose faith in waiting for his love.

I personally think it would be cruel for Des and Claire to get together and then enter Penny. After she said she would wait for him always. Hold on Des! I hope Penny finds him soon.

Penny will show herself around the time Desmond and Claire get serious. "Drama, Drama, Drama."

In the season 2 finale the two men set up in that shack in the middle of nowhere said "We missed it again." IT being the key word in that sentence. Also when the one guy calls her he says" Miss Widmore I think we found it." Now if she is searching for Des she must have some way of knowing he is associated with the "magnetic anomaly", I'm guessing is the IT. Is her father involved with Dharma? Does he know Desmond is on the island? Did Penny's father accidently leak information about where he is , and now she has set them up to find the place? Ok, so I might be over-thinking it just a bit, but it is Lost.

I think the fact that she has peple in some arctic location monitoring seismic, electromagnetic, or other types of disturbance, Shows her wealth and determination. Its also possible, they are looking for a distict SIGNAL.

i'm glad we are still going on this, becuase i think its possible that The same type of disturbance that they caused when the hatch explodes also brought desmond's boat to the island. Her people probably recorded that event somehow and conected it to His dissappearance. They had been sitting in that location waiting for it again and it happened when the hatch blew up.

See I thought that the storm we saw Des fighting through brought his boat to the island...no...did I miss something? I think that Penny installed a tracking device on the boat to keep tabs on Desmond, and that the Island is shielding the signal, except when it has an "event".

She did go through A LOT of effort to get the boat to him without alerting him as to the real benefactor.
