He's working on destroying Locke's faith in the island, also sowing the seeds of division within the losties "command structure", and he
was right--the Others did
not trade Walt. Jack got Michael instead.
Did you notice how shocked Jack looked ? I think he thought Michael was dead; that he had written Michael off.
If you think about it, Jack forgot all about Michael as soon as Zeke ticked his off by winning the stand-off. Remember, Zeke said something about Michael being somewhere where he was going to hurt anyone.
