From my observation of the patients attending the Santa Rosa Ward, it would not effect them to see others take medicene or to be watched by others while taking theirs. Also the plot would have lacked a little if we did not see them taking any meds.

Not every Ward has pajama wearing patients, but some still do...My guess is that the writers have never been to one so they were going of their own pre-knowledge.
