This one sounds like it might fit in with the 108 minutes per satellite orbit theories. Also, the publish year is close to the time of the Dharma project (1980). Note also the connection to Mines - Henry said he owned a mining company.

I also found an author named "Shirley Rousseau Murphy" who writes mysteries with Cats as the main characters ... for those that want to really stretch to find a link ...
