Yea, I think that is at least part of it. If they say anyone else is still alive, people may look for them, if the island is found again, there could be big problems for anyone still on the island. What I wonder is, who told them to lie and, What they said that convinced them to do it.

I think the Why of the Lie is the big question, indeed. Their story is SO full of holes. If I were a reporter I'd be trying to find the island where they crashed, looking for bodies and wreckage. And of course there's going to be nothing there. If the Oceanic 6 are as famous as the series is portraying them to be, there'd be reporters all over this story.

I was thinking they weren't saying anything because of fear of what could happen to the rest of the people left behind,unless they where told they would have home's in new new otherton and be able to live nice little life with the others. But with everything that has happened i kinda think they would want them found...

I agree with you guys - they lie to protect those left on the island.

Even if their story was true, 5 different people wouldn't be able tell the same story of the events. I think the real danger is if all 5 of them tell the same story too closely. If all of their stories match, it might make people suspicious.

I thought that the people from oceanic told them what to say, and that's probably part of the reason that they got paid out so much money.
