Dr. Jack Shephard
Dr. Jack Shephard is often seen as the main character of the series. He is a spinal surgeon and the de facto leader of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Jack has control issues and trouble dealing with situations that he cannot fix. However, this attitude of solving problems through reason has given him the ability to function well in crisis. Sometimes, if he feels guilt or pain over a situation he can't fix himself, he will do anything he can to fix it, even borderlining on obsessive. Jack is, most of the time, in control of his life, emotions and situation he is in and is able to keep a cool head in tense situations. Jack is also the half brother of Claire Littleton, although neither of them is aware of this. Jack has formed very strong bonds with Kate and Juliet while he has been on the Island.

Lottery numbers on the odometer
I think we've seen this before! When Claire gets in the accident that sends her mother into a coma. Anyway, I like Cheech Marin as a Character, he is mysterious and kind. and weird.

When I saw this episode for the second time Hurley's father seems pretty happy that ol' Hugo doesn't want the money anymore in the scene with the press Q&A. Hurley's father, David I think is his name, is a strange character. I don't know if he's trying to send his son back to the mental ward, or if he's just an innocent father who's trying to find a new life with his estranged son. Does anybody remember talking about where David went when he left Hurley and his mother behind? Someone was saying he worked for Dharma for a short time. I think this theory came about because when David got on his Yamaha letters were missing from the logo so "Yamaha" looked like "Dharma" anyone remember that?

Hey Flaneuse, did you realize our post counter numbers are almost exactly the same? ha ha LOL! Anyway there are a few far fetched rumors about David on Lostpedia.
Quote:
Hurley's imaginary friend Dave is part of the way he deals with his father leaving. They have a same name and both encourage him to eat things he shouldn't.
David meant only to leave to go somewhere for only a minute, however he met a woman. This could have been Libby, they got into a relationship and got happily married for 13 years. However, for reasons unknown, maybe David felt guilty that he had left Carmen, he faked his own death and fled away from Libby. However it took him 4 years to find Carmen again and learn that Hurley had won the lottery. Because of David dying Libby was traumatized and was sent to the mental hospital. Of course David wanted the money, and then Libby finds out David isn't really dead and has a family and has cheated, she wanted Hurley's money as revenge and follows him on 815 only to crash land on the island.
I've often thought that our main character's (at least those with parent issues) parents may have been on the island. Maybe David was stuck there all that time he was gone.
While he was away he was recruited to go to the island.
Dave is an incarnation of the island/monster. Such as Yemi was to Eko and Christian to Jack. It tests you and if you fail you will die. It can read your mind and is omnipresent on the island.

like I said some are pretty far-fetched.
