I think we've seen this before! When Claire gets in the accident that sends her mother into a coma. Anyway, I like Cheech Marin as a Character, he is mysterious and kind. and weird.

the car that hurley's dad gives him is red, but when hurley is arrested, his car is yellow.

so does he buy another one himself? he didn't want anything to do with the money...

The car tht Hurley was driving when he was arrested is the same red and white one his father gave him. I just checked the episode.

oh, thanks. why did i think it was yellow? must be going colour blind.

so if he ran away from it, how does he end up with it? change of heart?

He probably, in whatever crazed psychotic rampage he was going through, jumped in that car to let it be the harbinger of his doom.

When I saw this episode for the second time Hurley's father seems pretty happy that ol' Hugo doesn't want the money anymore in the scene with the press Q&A. Hurley's father, David I think is his name, is a strange character. I don't know if he's trying to send his son back to the mental ward, or if he's just an innocent father who's trying to find a new life with his estranged son. Does anybody remember talking about where David went when he left Hurley and his mother behind? Someone was saying he worked for Dharma for a short time. I think this theory came about because when David got on his Yamaha letters were missing from the logo so "Yamaha" looked like "Dharma" anyone remember that?

I think Hurley's father is just a funny character, very much like his mom. Good hearted, not so sharp but holding parental wisdom- definitely the source or inspiration to Hurley's humor and semi-sarcasm. I'm not quite sure if there's any mystery around Hurley's dad...?

Hey Flaneuse, did you realize our post counter numbers are almost exactly the same? ha ha LOL! Anyway there are a few far fetched rumors about David on Lostpedia.

I've often thought that our main character's (at least those with parent issues) parents may have been on the island. Maybe David was stuck there all that time he was gone.
While he was away he was recruited to go to the island.
Dave is an incarnation of the island/monster. Such as Yemi was to Eko and Christian to Jack. It tests you and if you fail you will die. It can read your mind and is omnipresent on the island.

like I said some are pretty far-fetched.

I believe he said he was going to Las Vegas for work.
