Johnathan "John" Locke
Johnathan "John" Locke is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. His paralysis was immediately healed upon crashing on the Island, which has ultimately led him to believe he has some sort of special connection to the Island. He is sometimes shown in antithesis to Benjamin Linus, sharing several traits including the ability to commune with Jacob. Seen as antithetical to Jack Shephard, he and Jack are philosophical opposites and used to share leadership among the survivors, but now seems to be creating his own agenda for his actions on the Island and has broken off from the survivors.

Not trying to nitpick, but Locke was much younger than 16 when he met Richard Alpert. I'd say he was between 5-7.

That's true! When I look at pictures from when I was little - I don't remember a lot of the kids who are in the pictures. And those kids and I were friends, we went to school together, played together, etc.... I'm with Asher and Darnzy on this one - I don't think John would remember Alpert.

Also the mind has a filtering mechanism for things that don't make sense. How could Alpert still look the same after all these years? He may look familiar, but you would search your memory banks for people you knew who were his age, not some adult you met as a child.

I have a theory that perhaps when we see Richard now, it's in the present. Like Richard believes Locke is the only way to stop the freighters and was trying to coach Locke into knowing his destiny young, so he leaves the island at coordinates to bring him to those times in Lockes life. But after dumbass Locke failed to follow his true direction, which would have gotten him the island in High School, he wanted to be a hero, or cool, or whatever, and I believe Richard gave up on him.
Think about it, it's Abaddon who tells Lock of the walkabout, and after the locker incident, we hear nothing more of Richard and Mittelos, nothing, until Locke is what, 50? ... and crippled. AND, it's Abaddon, who also has Naomi bring along the scientists clearly on a seek and destroy mission. Is Abaddon helping Ben and the Others, or sabotaging them. I guess helping, knowing that perhaps Frank is the only one who could land a chopper, and figuring Naomi might crash with the mercanaries... But then Abaddon is asking Hurley about the island, like now he has no connection. Odd.
