Mr. Eko
Eko, also known as Mr. Eko or Father Tunde, was one of the tail section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. He was a notorious war lord and drug smuggler in Nigeria before his brother Yemi's death. To get out of his country he hastily became a priest, but after Yemi's death, he seemed to take his role more seriously. Eko survived on the Island for 72 days before he was killed by the Monster.

From the Third Chapter of the Book of Law.
"4. Choose ye an island!
5. Fortify it!
6. Dung it about with enginery of war!
7. I will give you a war-engine.
8. With it ye shall smite the peoples; and none shall stand before you.
9. Lurk! Withdraw! Upon them! this is the Law of the Battle of Conquest: thus shall my worship be about my secret house.
10. Get the stele of revealing itself; set it in thy secret temple -- and that temple is already aright disposed -- & it shall be your Kiblah for ever. It shall not fade, but miraculous colour shall come back to it day after day. Close it in locked glass for a proof to the world.

I can see why some would quickly dismiss 'The Book of Law' but content and message-wise it wouldn't be an off choice for Locke totally. I think the title is deceiving for many: it is not a book with reference to logic, social collectivity or law as understood in some rigid fashion. It is a book that puts will power and strength above everything else to challenge established norms, religions and prophets. Sounds familiar?

This is John Locke to a T through the entire 4 seasons. He does what he instinctively feels is right, not what is considered right by the larger group. John Locke, the philosopher, leaves room for instinctual law, that is felt from within and not up for the group vote.

Hey, Flaneuse - the quote you have above from "The Book" is pretty spot on. That is really interesting - good find.

Thanks Steph. I thought it'd be an interesting read, especially that part of the 3rd chp.

If Richard didn't want to alter John's fate why would he go to the trouble of watching Locke for years and testing him?

Wait, wait, the "book of law" was written by Crowley? The Satan Worshipper? Now that puts a whole new spin on things for me. The island now seems like something out of an H.P.Lovecraft story! I wonder what the others worship at the temple? This might explain the paganistic way the others carry out their
funerals.
