sombra you are definitely on to something, and i think it's this:

the reason everyone keeps making a big deal about who is supposed to raise aaron is because NO ONE IS SUPPOSED TO RAISE HIM. Just like Ben had no mother and he took over leadership of the island and then same thing for Locke, this will be aaron's fate.

2.) John Locke -- in the parking lot of the toy store where he worked (not serious)

5.) Claire's mother - Forced off the road by a truck (put in a coma as a result)
6.) Sarah (Shepherd??) - spinal injury that Jack miraculously heals

11.) Juliet's ex-husband - mysteriously run over by a bus in Miami after Juliet tells Alpert "the only way he'd let her go is if he got hit by a bus"

Locke's mom isn't dead.

But the four stated here definitely have daddy issues. With Ben and Locke, we know the story all too well. The tension between Michael and Walt somehow got resolved and they learned to genuinely care for each other yes, but there's still a lot of work to do (plus off the island Walt don't wish to see Michael as far as we know from FFs) Aaron, if he grows up alright off the island without some tragic early death, will probably come to a point questioning the absence of his bio. father or will have problems with the father figure present to him.

It's more about fathers, than mothers to me.

I'm not convinced that Aaron does get to go through his whole life knowing his real mother. I think Aaron won't get either of them, unfortunately, but stand-ins like Jack and Kate.

To go a step further with the whole idea of many of these characters being motherless in one way or another...do you think this also ties in with the island preventing the women to become mothers? The pregnancy issue has not been brought up as much this season, but it still exists. Why is it important for people to not be mothers or have mothers? In the one instance where we have a mother (Claire), the island has obviously found another way to prevent her from being one...
