Michael Dawson
Michael Dawson is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. He had parental issues with his son, Walt, but the two have bonded with their time on the island. Michael shot dead Ana-Lucia and Libby in order to release Ben from captivity; and ultimately caused the capture of Jack, Sawyer and Kate, when he made a deal with the Others. His whereabouts are currently unknown after he left the Island with his son Walt on a motor boat.

Ben is a liar. We know this.

Words mean more than what they imply on the surface.
Ben did not gas D.I.
Richard Alpert's and his crew did it.
Since the relating episode was a Ben-centric one, many of us read the narrative as if it was solely for Ben and by Ben, with Ben's decision and initiative. Most likely,it was a larger plan (of Jacob, I don't know) and the timing was right for Ben to "reborn". So Richard made him a part of it which must have been to his (R's) advantage at some practical point too for the execution of the plan..
Ben manipulates more than he lies.
And which character on/off the island never lied really?
Of course, except for Vincent, the canine Chuck Norris..

Hmm, what if Jacob, is a strong in the sense that he can guide or influence, but can not will, because he's some ghost or apparition? I mean pretty obvious that he's not a living human. No body, no will....?

[quote=iamjohnlocke;46995]...I seem to recall several mythological characters punished in a similiar manner. I've got no clue on names but one guy had his guts eaten out by birds every day
POTPIES:
Prometheus. Later Heracles shot the vulture and saved him.
IAMJOHNLOCKE:
and another guy had to push a boulder up the side of a mountain, only to have it roll down the other side.
POTPIES:
Sisyphus
IAMJOHNLOCKE:
In fact, isn't Atlas supposedly holding the world, literally, on his shoulders?
POTPIES:
Yup. And there's Persephone who had to spend 6 months a year in Hades because she ate 6 pomegranate seeds while she was a captive there. Maybe that relates to Claire somehow? Just guessing, but we think she is alive and had to stay behind. Claire was kind of a hippy Earth goddess type. (Though, it was Sun who had the garden...) Even if Claire's dead, and had to stay behind.... I don't know.
IAMJOHNLOCKE:
....Locke just happened to venture into the trippy dream world Goodspeed was locked into...
POTPIES:
Well, it's interesting you say that. The name "Goodspeed" made me think of Hermes, the god symbolized by winged feet or winged sandals. I think someone here put that idea in my head. Flaneuse, maybe?
So many of you guys have make such interesting connections with the show! It keeps me thinking, definitely; the big reason why I like this site so much.
