I don't understand why having scenes set at times that are in the future relevant to the TV show's air time matters? Please explain your problem with this, I just don't get it.

Not really a problem. It's just that there have been many flashforwards, but only one that seems to be in the future relative to the air date. And at the time it aired, we did not realized that - it only became apparent with the August 2007 newspaper, plus an assumption that the airport scene happens after that.

So I thought, well that makes it unique - everything else we have watched occurred in "our" past - unless we are wrong about the sequence of events. Then I checked Lostpedia and saw that the timeline there did not assign a date estimate for the K/J airport meeting.

A few days later, the Lostpedia timeline did change - it now assumes the airport meeting occurred sometime after August 2007.

I see it is interesting in that they are closing in on our time.

Just from watching it and not looking at the screencaps or anything else I also assumed that the events in this episode were durning a time sometime after the trial, after Hurley visted Sun and Hurley was admitted to Santa Rosa and talked to Charlie the frist time.. I also assumed that it was before Jack and Kate meet at the airport..

I thought through the writing they made it clear. Jack and Kate make a comment that she is glad he changed his mind after the trial. Hurley has been talking to Charlie for a bit of time now more than once. Hurley even said to Jack in this episode I thought you didn't want to be around them. Jack's response I changed my mind after the trial.

The biggest reason though is the fact we are getting to see Jack downward spiral to the Jack we saw in Though the Looking Glass. Jack asks Dr. Erica for a prescription, we see him drinking heavily at the end, Now Jack has also seen his father 2 times in this episode which could shed some light ask to why In the Looking Glass he made the comment to bring his father down and if he is more drunk that he is he will go home..

I'm guessing that the writers are trying to push the timeline ahead in order to coincide with the start of season 6, so that it would coincide with real time like the pilot episode did (September 22nd, 2004).

So the fact that it's looking like the airport scene happens in the "future" (i.e. actually after the date the episode aired) is just a set-up for it being the "present" (same air date as say the start of season 6 (roughly January XX, 2010).

Makes sense?

Yes, that may be why they had them meet outside at night with poor lighting. Otherwise they would need to look like they had aged 3 years.

That helped me. Thanks Wednighter
