Ben and Charles

I thought the scene in Charles' bedroom extremely fascinating. Both Ben and Charles faces are half white and half black, but on opposite sides (Star Trek or Yin/Yang symbol). I also thought their conversation interesting in that Charles Widmore refers to Ben as "boy." This seems to me to show that Ben and Charles have known each other a very long time. Were they once allies and then Ben stole/rescued the island from Charles Widmore? Why can't they kill each other? If one is on the side of protecting the island and the other only wants to exploit the powers of the island for gain, why would the island not let the "good" one kill the "evil" one? Charles also says he knows WHO Ben is, and more interestingly, WHAT he is?

And the island - WIDMORE: That island's mine, Benjamin. It always was. It will be again. Ooh! How did Ben get it from Widmore?

I found this scene highly intresting too.. The comment that Charles made to Ben I know what you are.. The whole scene was amazing.. What is giving Charles the nightmares now that he is sleeping with a bottle of scotch too..

Yes! What is giving Mr. Widmore nightmares? Putting 324 dead bodies on a plane and sinking said plane in the Sunda Trench to deceive the whole world into thinking that all those people are dead? Sending Desmond, his only child's true love, off (essentially hoping Desmond would die) and be seen no more. Releasing a virus on African villages to discover survivability rates and effectiveness of a vaccine (Lost Experience)? Where is Mrs. Widmore?

Do you suppose the reason Ben has recruited Sayid is that Ben is going to use Sayid to kill Widmore, since Ben cannot kill him himself?

I wonder if, in the end, Ben is going to find Penelope, but he won't have the heart to kill her. Instead Ben will "force" her to live out her life on the island,(with Desmond) or Sayid will not have the heart to kill her and will convince Ben to let her live by making Ben sympathize with Desmond's situation of being apart from the woman he loves. (Sayid has lost Nadia and Shannon, Ben has lost Annie) - because I have not seen anything in the show that shows us that Desmond is off the island in the future. And that is how Desmond and Penny end up being Adam and Eve. Wonder if they use the Orchid Station to go back in time to protect them even further and that is how they end up being the skeletons in the cave?

I think Ben and Charles are each other's constant.

Did you also notice the painting of the Black Rock next to Widmores bed? I get the feeling that Widmore is a descendant of the Hansos (That island's mine - always has been) if not one of the Hansos (Magnus maybe?) I don't get how he ended up losing the journal and having to buy it back at auction if this is the case though - so maybe not! More questions as ever!

Queenbeesteph... I too was thinking along the lines that Penny is forced to stay on the island (with Desmond) I really really hope..

The whole Adam and Eve theme I think is a really good theory,I could see Ben maybe keeping Penny on the island to hurt Whidmore or maybe use her as another pawn in his so called game "with new rules now" people have said it before Ben does'nt kill anyone himself so trying to use someone else "sayid" would be a good bet!!

The fact that Ben asks when Charles started sleeping with a bottle of scotch next to his bed also shows that this isn't the first time Ben has been in Charles bedroom (not necessarily that particular bedroom). Or at least he is very familiar with Charles and his personal habits.
