Thoughts on Bens 'jump'
Hey all, just thought I'd try to put together a couple of thoughts, opinions and questions on Bens 'jump' for want of a better word.
a. Is the jump primarily through time or space? Obviously there is an element of time travel involved as ben asks what year he is in at the hotel.
b. Does his asking this infer the process is not perfected yet - he wouldnt need to ask if it was.
c. Was he expecting to 'land' somewhere else as his coat was not really summer wear
d. What was his injury from? looked like a bullet graze so wherever he came from is obviously not safe (unless it's a polar bear bite )
Sorry there's so many - but I've got all these and more! Any thought, opinions and observations are very welcome

Unless he started in North Africa (pretty sure he started on the island) then there is definitely some significant space displacement, probably about 10,000 miles as the crow flies. Unless he started in late 2005 (he arrives in Tunisia October 24, 2005) then there was significant time displacement, about 10 months.
So to answer your first question of whether his "jump is primarily through time or space one needs to discern which is greater 10,000 miles or 10 months?
I don't think the "jump" is perfected in this case, but obviously in others (e.g. Tom to NYC, Richard and Ethan to Florida and Portland) it was. Perhaps Ben was in a hurry or something went wrong. Note the injury in your last question/observation.
I don't think he had specific landing expectations, more of an escape. He's such an opportunist/survivalist (as time travelers must be) he quickly adapted.
Yes the injury is important. I originally thought that when he went into the secret room to summon Smokey he also made this trip to Tunisia and then to London all as a reaction to Alex's death. But maybe that trip was later he was all cleaned up and uninjured in London? Also if he went at the time he went into the room did the injury occur during the journey? Very tricky, something similar may be going on with Dr. Ray's injury and various time frames.
Good questions wish I had answers.

I just have three thoughts right now:
1) It might not be that he expected to land somewhere cold, but that the trip itself is cold.
2) He threw up orange stuff (Ew! I can't believe I am writing this!) which looked like the stuff Ethan gave to Juliet right before her trip.
3) I don't have a picture right now, but if you were to drill through the earth from around Fiji (the last location we heard about 815), you would come up roughly around Tunisia. It is possible that some of the diagrams in Daniel's notebook detailed this. So either there are conduits that transport you to different places according to Daniel's diagram (an icosehedron if looked at 3D) or there are wormholes. These wormholes are explained by what are called Vile Vortices (places like the Burmuda Triangle). And if you look at the map you can see there is a Vile Vortex located around Fiji and there is one located around Tunisia.

So are we saying that all this is about a bunch of man made wormholes to travel all over the world? I guess i like the crazy smoke monster and time traveling theory better than a gravity based travel through the center of the earth. That would'nt be much fun

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, MidasXL!!! Yes! That's what I was talking about - I just didn't have the picture to go with my thought! (because I had forgotten the word to decribe that kind of map - antipodal - aaahhh! That's the word, now I can stop thinking about it and searching for it! yay!)
