Exclamation dead doc

Hey, this one has me stumped. I can't remember from previous epi's whether the doc is really dead on the freighter, but I feel like, as Faraday says, the last time we saw him he was alive and well. Any ideas why he would wash ashore at the Losties camp w/ a slit throat?? And why the freighter would not report him as dead in the morse code message?

The people on the boat lie more than Ben does, so I wouldn't trust anything I heard from the freighter. Maybe the Doc tried to take a little boat ride and the captain killed him for not following orders. Or maybe Michael, Sayid, and Desmond are taking over the boat now that the mercenaries are off it.

Seeing the doctor wash up on shore raised a very important question. Does the bearing 305 or 325 really matter? Ben tells Michael follow 305 exactly and Faraday tells Frank follow 325 exactly. But you can't tell a floating body to stay on any bearing.

I think the bearing doesn't control where you end up as much as when you end up. Ben would have have to Michael a bearing that would have him end up back in the "real world" at a time logical to him (not knowing any of this time travel business at the time that he left). The freighter folk, arriving well after Michael left, would need to use a different bearing to return to whatever time their freighter is currently in. If they didn't follow that bearing and returned following a different one, the freighter may not have been there at all.
The dead body followed who knows what bearing. It is possible that the doc dies sometime in the future and floats in on such a bearing that he arrives on the island before he has actually died on the ship. Making what the freighter people say true.
This is the only explanation that could explain Faradays payload, Michaels departure, Sayid & Desmonds return to the freighter, and all the other time inconsistencies. It has to be the bearing that determines what timeline you arrive in or depart from...

A question just occurred to me...how would this bearing theory work with the fact that we know Desmond, having returned to the freighter, called Penny on December 24th (a date which was accurate according to both freighter and island time)?
Maybe 325 is a bearing that takes you to a point where the freighter and island are at the same point in time. Maybe 305 (the bearing given to Michael) takes you slightly back in time. Am I making any sense?

I wish Faraday would stop giving his jack a** stupid explanations and really try to explain what the frick is going on. I'm still going with my knowledge from miles that most people on the boat are lying. The doctor could have been killed and then unexpectedly showed up on the losties beach unintentionally. I guess

I'm liking the idea that the doc dies in the future and somehow ends up on the island before his death. Has anybody seen my flux capacitor?

I recounted the plot of this episode to my mom because she chose to watch ER instead. (I didn't get it either. WHY????????) When I told her about Faraday's stalling at Kate and Jack's question about why the doc had his throat slit ("Uh....gee, it must have been a misunderstanding or...uh....something. Anyway, let's all talk about something else!") She laughed her head off at that, and said "That is so LOST! Nobody ever answers a straight question."
