How did Kearney survive the Smoke Monster?

The previews for next week show an alive and alert Kearney. I was under the impression that the Monster wiped out the whole Freighter Black Op crew. Did Ben want Kearney to be kept alive so he can act out vengeance himself. This puzzles me

I know what you mean. What was the point in Ben calling the smoke monster if it wasn't going to kill the frieghters?

He was probably in a different place than the others.

Yea, but in the preview it show like four or five of the snipers including Keamy. So smokie only killed two of them?

Maybe Keamy ran like a little girl far enough away Smokie didn't get him. Or maybe Ben's leaving him alive for later.

Maybe they were at different parts of the island. Remember it was day when Keamy shot Alex and it was night when Smokey came. Maybe they set up camp deeper in the tree line and Smokey missed them. They should know about Smokey since they seem to know so much about the island (like where the barracks were and where the Losties are). They did get on the island unnoticed.

Did it? I didn't even see that!

Quite a part of the LOST audience choose not to watch even the previews, sneak-peaks etc, so it might be a good idea to use spoiler tags in cases like this.

I just assumed that we find out later that Keamy survived Smokey's attack. He's way too charismatic and bada#$ to be killed off this early. I'm hoping for a Keamy-Sawyer dance off, personally.

Locke also said right after Alex was shot that it would be dark in about 20 minutes and that is when the freighter guys would make their move to come in and Get Ben.. So I don't think that much time passed between when Alex was killed and Smokey was unleashed!
