How did Kearney survive the Smoke Monster? - Page 2

That is a good question because we do see in the previews that he is alive! But the smoke monster drug away that one guy that Sawyer was going to shoot. Why didn't the smoke monster kill Sawyer, Ben, John and Hurley for that matter? They were pretty close to the monster when it drug away that freighter fighter. Is the smoke monster a discriminating smoke monster? I thought it weird that Ben put so much emphasis on making for the treeline and all that and then everyone goes outside and just stands around staring at the smoke monster. Interesting, too, that the ground shook before we saw the smoke monster - seismic activity or the volcano related to the monster?

Yeah what was up with that? Did Ben maybe misjudge where the smoke monster would show up? Or did he mean another tree line since the barracks are pretty much surrounded by tree lines? Or was he hoping some of them would run for the tree line and get killed themselves?

Maybe Ben was hoping to get them far enough so they could'nt get a good look at "it" but when they went out they froze,then that guy came running and it was right infront of them.Maybe one of his plans did'nt work that well on the fly! His daughter was killed a couple minutes earlier

It seems to me that this forum has established that whatever is seen or said on LOST is said with forethought and purpose. "Mistakes, misjudging and hoping" would also seem to need to have a motive or point in the story. I think the whole treeline, smoky, soldier scene should be judged through this lens. No I don't have an answer to anyone's relevant questions, just trying to focus the speculation.

The Losties all knew, or at least had heard, what the smoke monster was capable of. They surely wouldn't have stuck around to watch what they already knew it could do.

So is the smoke monster like a Star Trek phaser? Can it be set on "stun" or clear up to "kill"? It sure seems like it from what we've seen - there's even a "scan only" setting! So Keamy must have been hit only by "stun" since we see him in the previews! Of course with Lost - anything is possible.
