Hugo "Hurley" Reyes is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Hurley's father disappeared when he was at a young age for almost 17 years. Afterwards, Hurley suffered an eating-disorder and after a traumatic accident he was sent to a mental asylum when he started seeing an imaginary person. Ever since, he has changed and has been extremely concious of his sanity and how people view him. When Hurley won the lottery, he was not overjoyed, instead he was fearful that his life was going to change. Hurley is typically happy-go-lucky and keeps the spirits of his fellow survivors up. He has an eating disorder but has managed to overcome that with the help of Libby, and has even stuck to it after her death. He is also the voice of reason in the group, and uses his common sense to solve difficult situations. Ever since winning the lottery with the mysterious numbers, he has searched for an answer for the curse of bad luck that supposedly plagues him.

I have compiled a bunch of stuff about the wormhole/vile vortices/casimir effect theory and put it in theories. I AM NOT CLAIMING THIS THEORY AS MINE. Still there is a possibly interesting map I made that might show the location of the island, please come discuss there.
That is very well put together XL! Pretty much spot on for me! Let me ask you a question XL - is the point you are trying to make about the Louisville Ridge that even though most of the peaks are underwater, there could, in fact, be an unknown peak that broke the water surface and that is the island?

Prior? So wormholes can only be used to travel back in time, but not forward? I thought wormholes were a two-way street. Richard Feynman explains wormholes, in his book, Six Easy Pieces, with a drawing of a piece of string pulled taut, and an ant standing on the string at one end. He brings the two ends together, with a fold or a loop of time below and out of the way, and suddenly the ant can walk from a to b in a fraction of the time it would have taken him before.
How does the Wikipedia idea that time travel is a one-way street jibe with guesses people here have made that Ben can only go forward in time, and not backward? More importantly, why would anyone try to time travel at all, if "the universe has a way of course correcting," as Mrs. Hawking noted to Des?
I know, I know! I think time travel is going on in Lost, too, I just don't get why some people seem to be able to do it without consequences (Ben) and some can't (Des). Could it be that not making changes to the future/past is one of the "rules" that Ben and Widmore have agreed to, but Widmore breaks the rules while Ben keeps to the rules?

So one side is not _always_ accelerated? That means sometimes time travel is possible between the two points and sometimes it's not. Is a magnetic force what kicks it into acceleration?

So how come in Daniel's experiment with the payload on the island, the two clocks show different times, rather than the same time?

How do you know for sure which plane, which slice through the earth from one point to another is the important one? I mean, you could start at Tunisia, going through the earth, and end up in a variety of places on the globe. Why is Fiji more important than any other? I mean, I could see that Fiji would be significant if the earth were a perfect sphere, then a Tunisia-to-Fiji slice might make a perfect diameter (I haven't looked on a map), but the earth isn't a perfect sphere. Far from it. It's an oblate spheroid, which makes things a lot less exact.

Yes QueenBee my point on the seamounts is that an island could exist that is uninhabited and unvisited along this ridge.
All great questions cppah I am not a physicist and can't get my mind around all of this either. I was thinking that which end of the wormhole was sped up and or how the Casimir effect stabilized the hole could control the backwards or forwardness of the travel.
Not all of the Vortices are land to land thus the Tunisia to island path is relevant. Also the antipodal nature of the island (and the Vile Vortices in general) to Tunisia is the point here.
