Nikki Fernandez
Nikki Fernandez was one of the middle section survivors from Flight 815 and is first introduced in "Further Instructions". She had spent most of her time on the island trying to recover the $8 million diamonds she and Paulo had stolen from Zukerman, her staged lover, before the crash. She received a Medusa spider bite that induced a deathlike paralysis and she died after being buried alive alongside Paulo.

The top line of the glyphs have a person with a raised hand to actuate or gesture towards something (familiar in Egyptian hieroglyphics), the monster's representation can be the box shape to the right of the person on the top line with the squiggly lines representing the odd noises it makes (monster roar and sound of a dot-matrix printer).
Since there are several biblical references in this show, I can surmise that the fish stands for a savior of some sort (early Christians used to paint fish on the walls of Roman sewer systems to notify other Christians of secret worship areas using the latin word Ichthys as an acronym for those that worship Christ), a figure with an instrument to summon something, and the beast (here represented as a circular figure, usually meant as amorphous spirits in Egyptian hieroglyphics) to bring about death (here represented as a cross).
What does everyone else think?
|
It seems you know more about glyphs than I do, so I'm not sure. I was thinking though that there is a charectar in the upper left that has his hands raised over some kind of big black smudge. Could this be a symbol of summoning Smokey, or is it just a part of the door that has been damaged?

Here is a picture that I can zoom in a little closer on.

Ok QBS, look at the upper left portion of the door. There are some vertical lines coming down. (a door maybe?) they end at a trio of vertical shapes that I'll call 'squashed donuts'. See it? That is some kind of hat or ceremonial thing the creature is wearing on its head, which is directly below the "hat" "Bird-bear-man" has a large eye directly below the 'hat' and a pointy ear like a cat's to the left of the eye. It is facing the right and putting something that looks like a piece of cheese on a cracker in its mouth.
Its difficult to see because it is a 2-diminsional image juxtaposed with more primitive symbols. You will see animals like this carved in temples and other structures in Mexico and probably many other places in the world,,, but definitely stuff like this in early Meso-American art.

Now that you put it in the context of Mexico (thinking of the ancient stuff from the pyramids, or that calendar from there etc...) and that it is in profile I can completely see it. I saw the hand from the very first time I saw the door, but didn't see the big picture. I just wonder about the times of carving, because you have "the cheese eater" which appears to be one style, you have the squiggle line in a box with celtic cross and stick men - totally different style. Could it be "the cheese eater" is from the first, original inhabitants, and the other drawings (since you think they look African) be from the surviving slaves of the Black Rock?

I think that is a good theory, but its hard to say either way. It all could have been done at the same time too. Puzzeling. Thanks for posting!! Note: you won't usually see a brick archway like that in Mexican ruins. That looks... gothic?

You know, I looked at that brick work, too and thought to myself "Didn't the Romans create the arch - with the use of a capstone or however it was done?" I thought that was how they were able to create the aquaducts so that they weren't too heavy (because I think they invented cement too, didn't they?)

Wait, "the secret room's secret room"?? Is Ben's tunnel inside the secret room where he had all the passports and currencies? I didn't think they were attached.

Yeah! CPPAH - remember - Ben pulled the bookcase away (entrance to the secret room) and then behind the rows of suits (they were across from the desk with the cash and passports, I think) was the secret, secret room, or the SUPER secret room.

No, no... the mural is from the Swan Hatch. Check out this picture - it is an overlay of the Swan mural and the chalkboard.

I believe the term you are looking for when you explain the "raised" areas of the door is "reliefs" used by people throughout the Mediterranean Sea (including greeks, romans, egyptians) and by the Aztecs.
