Boone Carlyle
Boone Carlyle was a middle section survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 and was Shannon's stepbrother. He attempted to assume a semi-leadership role with the survivors but failed due to being rash and young, though he became Locke's apprentice when the two formed a close bond. Boone survived on the Island for 41 days before he died of injuries sustained in a fall whilst he tried to contact 'rescuers' from the drug smugglers' plane. According to Locke, Boone was a sacrifice the Island demanded.

I think that being able to coerce Sayid into helping him was just a happy coincidence for Ben
he leaped forward randomly to hopefully find something to help him back on the island
(maybe the time leaping mechanism, and doing something in the future/past is what causes smokey to come out and wtfpwn people?)

Here's a good shot of the writing on the door of Ben's secret room's secret room. Do the heiroglyphics look similar to the Swan Mural?

Hey QBS So nice to have the show back on, and you still posting these great screen shots! To answer your question I don't see many similarities aside from the fish. Also Ben's secret door looks way older, like wicked old.

Hey! That's the first time anyone's called me QBS! I like it! I can't really do your name though because it comes out as C.O.W. and I don't want to call you a cow! *giggle* Yeah, I don't think they are too similar either, but the heiroglyphics look almost childish to me, rather than "ancient civilization-y". Does that make sense? I definitely want to look into the door more. It was completely cool that Ben's secret room had a secret room.

Hi jswindle, check out queenbeesteph's post above and click on the attachment for "bensroom.gif" (or something like that). I think you will find what you are looking for

LOL, I don't mind COW, I used to collect cows when I was a child (some kind of Gary Larson-inspired lunacy ) I'm a little lost on the context of that mural, and I can't remember the episode it was in, so it is hard to comment on it. You said it was in the Pearl? It looks like something out of a children's book, you're right. That mural does remind me of the one in the nuthouse where Hurley lives when Abaddon comes to visit him, the one right behind Abaddon's head that someone posted a screencap of in another thread.

I don't know masonry terminology but some of the symbols on Ben's door appear to be raised (the stone carved away to leave a raised symbol), while others appear to be carved into the stone. Would that mean they were made at different times, by different people?
No, no... the mural is from the Swan Hatch. Check out this picture - it is an overlay of the Swan mural and the chalkboard.

Thanks for the clarification. Well, not speaking from the perspective of one schooled on masonry, rather an inactive anthropology undergrad, I would say that the glyphs on the right apear African in origin, (is that a Celtic cross? druidic maybe?) while the "raised" carvings you mention remind me of Meso-American carvings. If you look closely you wil see the image of a creature (bird?) with a hand and it is putting something into its mouth. Maybe you already saw that, but i didn't until I opened it in another program and zoomed in.

Well, it's a good thing Charlotte stayed on the island - she's probably our best hope of interpreting these symbols and maybe the symbols at the as-yet-unseen temple.
Both of you guys have some interesting insights. Wow! Where is the bird? Could the bird with a had actually be a "harpie"? I like the idea of the squiggly line inside the box representing the smoke monster. After seeing the way the smoke monster came into the barracks last night - one long wavy line - that could be that symbol.
