Charlie Hieronymus Pace
Charlie Hieronymus Pace was a survivor from the middle section of Oceanic 815. Before the crash, Charlie was the bassist and main songwriter for the rock band Driveshaft. When Flight 815 crashed, Charlie was snorting heroin in one of the plane's bathrooms. Charlie's drug addiction and crippling self-doubt were the biggest obstacles in his life. Like many of the Losties, the crash provided Charlie with a fresh start. On the Island, Charlie formed a relationship with Claire Littleton and her son Aaron.
After avoiding deaths foreseen by Desmond several times, Charlie finally died willingly to save the other survivors. He drowned on day 93, and his death is yet unknown to anyone except Desmond.

Forged Papers
Remember back to the episode D.O.C. where Sun abruptly enters her father's office and Mr. Paik and another man are having an untranslated conversation in Korean?
Quote:
|
Sun interrupts Mr. Paik having a conversation with his associates. The conversation is notably not subtitled despite all other Korean conversations being so in the episode. Translation has revealed that Paik was arguing about forged shipping documents which they were supposed to provide for the Hanso Foundation (or possibly vice versa). Paik warns that they must provide the equipment soon or their friends will become very annoyed (or possibly he will become very angry).
|
I have developed a paranoid streak when it comes to Lost and no longer take anything at face value... just like Tom "happens" to have a folder (the Others are all just crazy for folders, aren't they, they love to just toss out a dossier, but I digress) for Mike containing copies of receipts that show Mr. Widmore purchased a plane. Which is very convient for conning Michael into working for Ben. But wonder if these papers are the papers Mr. Paik and his associates are talking about? What are the implications then?

Well whatever Paik was talking about with those men in his office happened before the plane crash. Right?
So if the conversation in Paik's office had something to do with the fake wreckage of 815 then does that mean that the real crash of flight 815 was no accident?
I don't think so. I thought the real flight 815 that broke up over the island was caused by Desmond's faliure to push the button in time.

So just to sum up whats going on the last 2 episodes, as far as the crash:
Team Widmore's story: Benjamin Linus faked the wreckage to protect the island. And where did he get the bodies? He had a facility on the island that was capable of killing everyone on it by poisonous gas, and was prepared to use it.
proof: a black box.
Team Other's story: Widmore staged the wreckage to keep the location of the island a secret. Apparently he has somehow found the co-ordinates (the diary auctioned by Hanso Foundation???) and has stationed a freighter near-by with the purpose of killing everyone on the island.
proof: documentation of all the aspects of staging a plane wreck in an oceanic trench. a short video of Widmore beating someone in an alley.
I'm not trying to make any point here, just trying to staighten out all of this in my head. If I were Columbo, I would say neither side's evidence carries water, and more investigation is neccesary. In the mean time, look out for flying bullets!

queenbeesteph, I think if Paik's meeting from that episode, (which I haven't seen) is the only one that's not sub-titled, then it was definitely important in relation to the plot of this show! You might be on to something.

Kudos on a sum-up well done, Can o' worms! And therein lies my confusion. I think they both are capable of it.

I see what you are saying. I've read a lot of stuff on this. This seems to be the BIG question in the FATE vs. CHANCE or free will argument. Did the plane simply crash because at the exact moment that Desmond didn't push the button the plane was in the exact right spot, or did Fate (or the island) course-correct because Ben needed a spinal surgeon because Ben needs to protect the island.
And btw - didn't the map that Ben gave to Alex, Karl, and Danielle look a WHOLE lot like the style of map that Daniel and Charlotte used to find the Tempest. So more confusion in that Mr. Widmore and Mr. Linus get their maps from the same place?

The scene is in episode 18 of season 3 "D.O.C"
It is about halfway through the episode.
Lostpedia summerizes it very briefly by saying:
Sun goes to her father's office. As she approaches her father in a meeting, one of his men is reporting that they have not yet received the fake construction permit. Mr. Paik comments that the Hanso Foundation is upset because the Paik Heavy Industries did not provide them with some equipment.

I think that the plane was already going down. Desmond's failure to hit the button simply caused it to break into three pieces.
