A gun used in a TV show is a prop. And safety comes first. In the past there have been actors who have been killed by guns that were loaded with blanks. I have to believe that the gun that Harold Perrineau (Michael) puts to his head was designed for safety first and realism second.

I agree with you. They have to find a way to make everything look as real as possible without actually risking the actor's life. They could always incorporate this into the story so that it looks intentional. Maybe they'll say that Tom tampered with the gun to protect Michael but passed it off as the "island" that was protecting him.
