I was under the impression that the "you were gone for two months" speech that Michael's mother gave to Michael when he went to her home was referring to the 66 days that Michael and Walt were alive on the island, before he was given the boat by Ben.

I don't know if there's another thread I should be posting this in, but I still can't wait to see the explanation given for Walt's growth. If there's only a 31 or 32 minute time difference between island time and off island time, that still wouldn't explain Walt's growth. Maybe the vision of Walt that spoke to John Locke was a future version of Walt? I dunno?

Clearly far too many holes in the Michael/Kevin/Walt story.

1) How they get back to and into the USA without question.
2) How Walt has grown so much in 2 months.
3) How Michael recovers from a major car crash in such a short period of time.
4) Why in the dead of winter in NYC they are often dressed lightly, there is no snow, the plants are green and there is no condensation from their breath.

I suppose the comment that this was just a bad episode rings true.

Still much of "Lost" is like this, maybe as I get more into it my expectations are too high.

I was reading an article on line and thought this thread would find this interesting:

Quote:
Many fans were confused last night not be the events themselves, but when they happened. With the amount of time compression on this show, sometimes it’s difficult to keep things straight. Harold Perrineau has been off the show for nearly two whole years. Yet on the show, less than a month passed between the time he left the island and last night’s episode.

Also, we wondered, when did Tom find time to get off the island during that month before he died? To answer these questions, here is a simple timeline using the days on the island to try and pinpoint when the flashbacks took place.

Day 67 (Saturday, November 27, 2004)::
-Michael and Walt are released in the boat get off the island.

Day 67-Day 74:
-Tom and the rest of the Others are at the Hydra Station, interrogating Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Tom is present throughout, including during Ben’s surgery.

Day 80-Day 81:
-Locke, Kate, Rousseau and Sayid see Jack playing football with Tom.
-The Others (Tom included) head off to the Ruins.

Day 87:
-Naomi lands on the island.

This timeline results in some serious issues fans should have with time. When Ben calls Michael on the radio, he is in his home in the barracks, which means that scene takes place on Day 81 at the latest. In other words, two weeks after leaving the island, Michael is on the freighter coming back.

Also, this means that Tom’s visit to New York City must have taken place between the time at Hydra and the time he’s seen playing football with Jack. This covers roughly a one week span that takes place one week after Michael leaves. This makes almost no sense.

Michael left in the boat, he had to find help, come ashore, somehow explain himself, get on a plane back to New York City, drop off Walt to live with his grandma, find an apartment, get into a car accident, recover, and only then did he meet Tom. Either the writers are playing fast and loose with the concept of time, or Michael had the busiest week in the history of the world. - buddytv

Great article QueenBee, thanks. So which is it; busy week or "fast and loose with the concept of time." I expect we'll find Scottie or Data and the "Transporter" at the Temple.

Actually Mydas, I wouldn't be suprised if we don't see some other type of travel between the island and the mainland taking place. They very well could have some sort of "transporter". Of course, why then would Ben need all those passports? As I recall, the submarine has exploded and the beacon that they followed to the island had supposedly stopped working. Hmm...not sure how this one will turn out.

I suppose it's always possible that the writers just didn't think this series of events through. This episode was produced before the strike. Maybe they were disgruntled?

1) snuck in with all the cubans.
2) umm he was only young in early series and the actor has grown, nothing to do with the story, they jsut continued to use walt despite his growth rate, theywouldnt have figured such a change when htey hired him
3) same way a bullet wouldnt fire to kill him, the island is on cotnrol of his life. speedy recovery same as john lockes miracle healing.
4) the show is filmed in Hawaii.

I was doing some more investigating and here is an article where they tried to really pin down the dates for this episode.

I felt that it was necessary to do some investigating, and give some timeline perspective for Michael's flashback scene's within 4x08, Meet Kevin Johnson.

Michael left the island on Day 67, which was November 27, 2004 according to the timeline at SWLS.
Naomi arrives on the island on Day 86, which was December 16, 2004

So the events of Michaels flashback seems to have taken place at some point between these two dates. But we can narrow it down even further.

Tom is very prominent during season 3. Here are the dates that I could lock down pretty solid in which Tom is either mentioned or has speaking parts based on transcripts of the show.
3x01, 3x02, 3x04, 3x06, 3x07, 3x09, 3x12, 3x13, 3x19, 3x20, 3x22, and 3x23. The dates of these episodes are:
11/28/04, 11/29/04, 11/30/04, 12/3/04, 12/10/04, 12/11/04 (from 3x19), 12/16/04 (from 3x19), 12/19/04, 12/20/04.

So when looking at these dates it seems fairly obvious that there is only one stretch of time when Tom could have gone to visit Michael, and that was between December 3 and December 10. I think 7 days is reasonable enough for Tom to have made it off the island and back, if we assume that they aren't only using the sub to get places. My assumption is the sub is only used to get somewhere nearby that they can then fly where ever they need to go. I'll also mention that December 10 is the day that Locke blew up the sub, though obviously Ben found a way off the island that didn't include the sub in the flash-forwards.

I am starting to think that Tom may have been killing 2 birds with 1 stone. What if when he went to NY to recruite Michael is the same time that Anthony Cooper was kidnapped.. I remember Tom was on the island when the Locke blew up the sub.. Maybe Richard and Tom took a trip off the island to get Cooper and recruite Michael at the same time..
