 Dr. Juliet Burke
Dr. Juliet Burke (née Carlson) is a member of the Others. She seems unhappy with her allegiance (particularly, it seems, with Ben's position of authority), and lives at the Barracks. Juliet is a calm, intelligent woman with a background in medicine, but unhappy with her private life and will do anything to get off the Island. However, it seems Juliet has betrayed her people and joined the survivors in wanting off the island.

I know my hoop earings can go up and over my ear and it looks similar to this. I understand it does not look connected at the bottom, just was my first thought. (Mind you I did not see the other ear to know if she is even wearing earings, just simply took a quick look at pic's posted.
The other one looks like ear protection, why I have no idea!

as obvious, not an earring (clipped or pierced) or beads either- it looks as if hanging at the end of some cable over Alex's ear and between her hair.

I had my hippie times and it looks real futuristic to be beads or anything braided- not to mention that it looks not attached but hanging  But seems like this is one of the fav issues of speculation on other LOST-related forums and blogs as well. Screencaps and Easter Eggs: Alex's Ear Peice has something for every different opinion on this.
I find the "it's gotta be Sennheiser ME2 Omnidirection Lavier Mic" speculation the most plausible. Google for images and it looks very likely to be the case.
