It's not that you can't be killed through suicide, it's that you can't die until the Island lets you.

Exactly how I understood it
That is why Locke didn't die when Ben shot him as well at the DMG (dharma mass grave) Walt appeared to him and told him he still had work to do. If we count the missing pieces When Christen Shepard tells Vincent to wake Jack up after the plance crash.. He states that he still has work to do..

No one ever said that people who have been to the island can't commit suicide. I think the point is that you can't kill yourself until your work is done. Charlie's work was done. Part of his work was dying, so yeah, he's dead. I liked him too...at least he had the best death scene of all...much more dramatic than Karl's...poor guy. He was actually starting to grow out of that super dork phase too.

The guy that was in the station with Kelvin....Radzinsky killed himself. So suicide is possible.

I believe Charlie's death was needed by the Island somehow, because no matter how many times Desmond saved him, there was always another death coming for him.

This reminds me of the conversation about everyone needing a constant. I don't think this suicide thing is an all encompassing to everyone. Like Sombra1230 said earlier^^^, and I totally agree with you, Charlie's work was done.

You've crystallized my thoughts perfectly.

Can a person be "mostly" dead (read it like Billy Crystal)? What I mean is if you subscribe to a multiple timeline thought and you believe that times are different ---> the island is in one time and the real world/freighter is in another time, if you die on the island (which is the past) but you are still alive in the real world time (which could be seen as the future) can you be "half alive" and still exist in one half of the time, and therefore somehow communicate with people, feel an odd need to return to the island (in the real world), etc.?
