Boone Carlyle
Boone Carlyle was a middle section survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 and was Shannon's stepbrother. He attempted to assume a semi-leadership role with the survivors but failed due to being rash and young, though he became Locke's apprentice when the two formed a close bond. Boone survived on the Island for 41 days before he died of injuries sustained in a fall whilst he tried to contact 'rescuers' from the drug smugglers' plane. According to Locke, Boone was a sacrifice the Island demanded.

you still have work to do
this is one of those phrases that keeps popping up, a la "see you in another life, brotha"
"YOU STILL HAVE WORK TO DO."
Isn't that what Walt said to Locke when Locke was dying in the pit?
Tom tells michael that he cannot die yet, because he still has work to do.
That got me thinking. In the "LOst peices", the 13th one where we see Christian and he sends Vincent to wake up Jack. He says "Go get my son, he still has work to do."
Could that be a clue that Jack and the others supposed to be dead and the island is the only thing keeping them alive, so that they complete their "tasks". I think thats why we have been seeing Libby, she's not really dead. she's been kept alive by the island because, she too still has work to do.
I also think this means that when jack originally landed on the beach after the crash...he was dead.

How could Jack be dead? They explained how the crash was a hoax ,and how Widmore didn't want anyone to know that anyone survived the crash for his own selfish reasons.

If any thing tonight's episode proved how the wreck at the bottom of the ocean is a complete hoax.

The crash that the world knows about is a hoax. But there was still a real crash. That's how they got to the island
Interesting thought. That Jack died in that crash but still had work to do. I always thought it was odd that he was so far away.
I just don't see how they could show that on the show, or even what difference it would make to the story.

And that's why in that flashforward at the end of season three he is unable to commit suicide! Because the island wont let him, isnt done with him yet.
