To be honest I think maybe you guys are reading too much into it...maybe it's just some guy in a hospital. I mean, not every little thing in every scene needs to be something important, right?

I was also thinking more along the lines that he some Hanso family memeber.
I went back and rewatched the episode and if you'll notice that the monitor that Micheal is hooked up to shows the words "No Alarms are set" something like that, and then when he looks over at the old man in the other bed it looks like he has a tube into his mouth not a breathing mask over his mouth then comes Libby in.
When Micheal is awaken he looks at his monitor is not the same and looks over at the older man, then that woman doctor/nurse came in and says it couldn't of been the other man who had screem who looks to be in a coma.
Maybe we can get some side by side screencap of these scenes.
I'm gonna bet that if the old man is a part of the story he's a Hanso.
Oh wasn't Locke's father killed on the island by Sawyer cause Locke couldn't kill him, and got Sawyer to do it cause Locke knew his father had done something or another to Sawyer and Locke knew Sawyer would be angry enough to kill him.

If it's someone significant, I believe it will be Alvar Hanso. He is still alive as far as we know.

Looks like Alvar Hanso (or Alex Trebeck) to me.

I would put money on Alvar Hanso....but when I originaly saw it I thought it resembled Kelvin. Maybe the island is not done with Kelvin and didn't let him die.

this might sound dumb, but who is alvar hanso and who is kelvin? :/

i thought that the man next to him was just used to show how serious michaels injuries were as a result of the crash. the fact that hes on the same ward as someone in a coma; yet he still didnt die. i dont think it was anyone important.

Jenna I'd agree with you completely, however this is Lost so we never know lol. But if it is anyone important, I think it looked most like this Hanso dude. And the camera did show him a few times so it was either a Lost Writer "setup" or significant.
