I don't know either way if Jin is dead or not. I think this issue is far from settled. It was meant to be ambiguous. I want to think that Jin is not dead and that the headstone is for other people to think he is dead. Technically there will be a tombstone w/ 9/22/2004 for EVERYONE who is not a member of the Oceanic 6. The only thing that is settled is that Jin is not a member of the O6. If there is no one alive on the island still, then there is little reason for the O6 to "go back" to the island. Jin could easily be one of the people the O6 have to go back for. However, Daniel Dae Kim was involved in a DUI this year and the writers could easily decide at some time in the future what Jin's fate will actually be. They might not even be sure at this point.

Hurley, and later, Jack, kept insisting that the O6 needed to go back to the island, probably to get the others they left behind. Wouldn't Sun be one of the people insisting this also? I don't think she'd be able to just lounge around with the knowledge that her husband is still on the island.

I don't remember it showing her "lounging" around? Also until we know what kind of deal they made to get off the island (if any deal was made at all) we will be unable to fully understand their emotions/actions during flashforewards.

True. But Jin makes it a point to say that he will never leave Sun when they are reunited on the island after the fight-thing.
This happened right before the flash forward. There could be significance in the stressing of those words.

I hope he's not dead. it would make sence for him to stay behind and Sun to leave the island. it was such a sad ending.

someone posted elsewhere that sun was packing before she went into labour. now, she could have been packing for a hospital stay, or another thought i had was maybe she was packing to leave to try to get back to jin. kind of like how jack in his flash forward said he kept flying trying to get back to the island?

So, is everyone on the same page in thinking that this episode had flash-forwards of Sun and the baby and flash-backs of Jin bringing the panda to the Ambassador's grandchild?

My first reaction was that Jin ended up faking his death and now leads a different life, still working for Mr. Paik. ?? (so it was all flash-forwards)

But some of these discussions are pretty compelling!!

That's a really good point. Also even though Jin told Sun that he would never leave her they may have had to split up now, in order to be together later, you know in the long run.

They could also be stressing those words for the opposite reason, like when they stressed Kate saying "I'm not good with babies" and then she has a baby in the flash-forward the very same episode. Maybe stressing Jin saying "I will never leave Sun" (or whatever the exact phrasing was) is actually alluding to some sort of betrayal where Jin does abandon Sun for her own safety. They could have been wanting to show us later just how hard this would be for Jin to do...
