For some reason at this point it becomes important to impart upon Sayid/Desmond that the crash is staged, Widmore is good, Ben is bad, you guys should really want to kick his ass, etc…etc…etc… Even over-eager Doc Ray gets in on the act while leading them back to their new brain-stained quarters: “He’s pretty forthcoming, right? Right?” Yeah, right. Except that Sayid’s sarcastic retort tells us that he’s already caught on.

I don’t believe for one minute that Ben is behind the ‘staged’ jetliner at the bottom of the ocean, or the hundreds of rotting bodies, or the big elaborate cover-up (nor do I believe that Ben’s totally innocent either). It doesn’t take a “Don’t trust the captain” note for me either – I simply don’t believe Gault. Either he’s lying outright, or he’s been duped into believing and perpetuating that story by Widmore. And since so far we’ve seen nothing but a ship of fools – unknowing fools or crazy ones – I’d like to think someone on the freighter is in at least part of the loop.

I thought that too, but then I remembered' during the initial scene where the news played the discovery, the pilot immediately called the authorities because the pilot who replaced him wasn't wearing a wedding ring, so I think it's safe to call it fake.

Minkowski told them that the communications/radio was sabotaged and also said "I could have fixed it except... I went crazy" (or something along those lines) So it isn't unbelievable that Sayid could fix it.

I did forget that, so I guess that makes a little more sense.

Right i have had a few day's to digest the latest episode and think about the new people we have been introduced too.
First of all a lot of people on this thread are talking about the FAKE plane at the bottom of the ocean and who is responsible for it? Well i think we need to ask ourselves who was able to arrange for all these people to be on the same plane and make it crash on purpose, as im sure everyone knows and will be able to find in many episodes these people where brought to the island for a reason.

So if it is Ben then, why was he surprised when the plane crashed on the island?????
It can't be Whitmore because there is no reason for him to arrange a fake plane crash, it does not benefit him in anyway and also he claims to have spent alot of money and effort getting the black box from the fake crash, well why if he arranged the crash in the first place, he would know it is a fake?

So i think Dharma arranged the fake crash, they where under the impression that the island was under a big sickness and it was only safe to do food drops for the survivors of the sickness. Then the buttons stop being entered and kaboom MASSIVE electromagnectic discharge and Dharma know for sure they are being lied too by ben and discover there is a plane crashed on the island and they need to cover it up or the world will find out of their morally wrong experiments, so they arrange a fake plane crash to elude the words press and public.

whitmore versus Dharma I think is the big money fight, we know they used to be in business together, whitmore supplied the pregnancy kit sun used on the island.
We also know whitmore has been buying stuff to do with the island since 1996 when he bought the manifest from the blackrock. He wants the island for his own reasons and Dharma as we know want the island for experiments, here we get the power battle.

I can't for the life of me find where I posted it but there was a list of people on the plane who likely bought their ticket and reason for being in Austrillia.. I think your right and that is a darn good question
