Unless someone sitting down shot someone standing up, the angle of the blood splatter is consistent with suicide. And even then they would have to be a big height difference. At least that's how I remember it, does anyone have a picture of the splatter?

Here is the best screencap I could find. The blood spatter is between Desmond and the doc's heads. Looking at it now I don't know how I could have thought it was anything else but a suicide.

Someone put someone else out of their misery, opened the door and shot with a large caliber weapon? "mercy killing" maybe? Or maybe just to end the ceaseless banging on the hull walls, or something.

queenbeesteph,
thanks for posting the photo of the fireaxe . That was bothering me. I don't agree with the above poster that says it is in some kind of bracket. That axe looks sadistically placed. My impression of the blood splatter was ambiguous. Whether murder or suicide, something fishy is going on with this freighter ((excuse the pun))

I agree, the angles all wrong for someone shooting someone else. looks like someone ate their pistol.

Only when I can't get to a friends house to watch since I don't have a TV. The gym I go to has Hi-Def flatscreens attached to the treadmills and elyptical trainers, so sometimes it is the only place I can watch the show, unless I want to wait until 2 in the morning and watch it online.

anyways I thought that they were using Zoë Bell for the role of Regina because there would be some cool stunt scene she would do. But all she did was jump off the boat?

Don't get me wrong it was a very cool scene dramatically, but I don't think it was much of a stunt.
Hey, you try putting on a couple hundred lbs. of chains and jumping off of a freighter ship into the open sea. Then tell me it isn't much of a stunt!

Don't mess w/ my girl Zoë Bell!

I don't mean that someone was executed for being crazy.

What I meant was that someone went crazy and possible violent and they got shot/killed in self defense.

Maybe there was a struggle and the shooter got knocked to the floor and shoot up at the crazy person?

I think Zoë Bell is great. But I doubt very much that the chains were real.
What would be the point?
All she did was jump off the freighter. Granted I am sure it was a pretty long way down to the water.
The thing is that when I first heard Zoë Bell was going to be on LOsT I immediately thought: "Awesome! There is going to be some cool action scene with an even cooler stunt by Zoë Bell"

so......... I am disappointed now, thats all.

I can see how you would feel that way, but she may still appear in a flashback. As to what would be the point of using real chains, well, you are probably right that they were fake, but some stunt performers actually perform real stunts, and if Ms. Bell is a purist, then she may be one of them. Take Jackie Chan for instance, yes he is from a totally different school of performance, but all his stunts are real, because that is what his audience expects. If you see Jackie free-falling ten stories, he is actually free-falling ten stories. If you see Jackie jumping off a moving train on a motorcycle in order to grab a helicopter, he is actually... well, you get the point. Anyway, I wouldn't rule out that she used real chains, just because you could as easily do it with fake ones.

She's a stuntperson, not Houdini. The chains are totally fake. And if they are real, they were just wrapped around her in a way that they could just fall off so she could swim back up.
