Mr. Eko

Eko, also known as Mr. Eko or Father Tunde, was one of the tail section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. He was a notorious war lord and drug smuggler in Nigeria before his brother Yemi's death. To get out of his country he hastily became a priest, but after Yemi's death, he seemed to take his role more seriously. Eko survived on the Island for 72 days before he was killed by the Monster.

The placement of jin's flashback seemed to be in strange. My impression was it was a (hold onto your seats) a flashforeward/flashback. The importance of staying on course when leaving the island was stressed. Was Jin thrown from the freighter, either accidently or on purpose, while the freighter passed through the wormhole and returned to an earlier time. So while it is in the past, it is Jin's future.
This would leave him essentially dead to Sun and Hurley, the tombstone is a memorial, not neccesarily a grave.

The tombstone being a memorial kind of makes sense. That could explain why the date of death was 9-22-04.

Here's my math:
Sun had already been out of school for a couple years when her mother set her up with that guy w/whom she ultimately had an affair. She dated Jin for at least a year before telling her father. They had been married probably 2 years before the crash (using the aging of the puppy as my evidence here...). Add back the 4 years she should have aged in the real world once she returns and 1 extra year since Koreans round their age up at birth and Sun is 32. Yeah, that makes a lot more senses to me.

Yeah, 1980 makes no sense to me, so why's it on the tombstone?
In real life, Yunjin Kim (Sun) is 34 so it makes sense that her age on the tombstone would confuse us. I don't know why they would chose to make her character that much younger than she really is. Was this something they didn't think through--like maybe they didn't think anyone would notice? Or is there a reason that they've made her appear so young? It's all very odd.

Okay, here's a full translation of Jin's tombstone:

(big characters in the middle) Southern Sea Kwon Jin Soo grave
(right side of stone)1974 year 11 month 27 day born
2004 year 9 month 22 day death
(left side of stone) wife Paik Sun Hwa
1980 year 3 month 20 day born

There you go. Also, point of interest, Sun's name translates roughly as "anger" and weirdly, Jin's name translates <very> roughly as either "position possiblity" or "antilogarithm" though this makes me doubt the Apple translation widget's credibility, as I know the name Soo (my father's middle name) translates as "water"...

Ummm... your roomate maybe???

Here's a good picture for the visually-minded (is that even a real thing or did I just make that up? It sounds weird! *giggle!*)
