According to ABC's website, in the episode recap it verifies that sun's story was a flash forward and jin's was a flashback.

Did you think it was cheesy trickery when they aired "through the looking glass" also? because I gotta tell you I was floored when I finally realized what was happening. I'm just asking, not trying to be sarcastic.

No. When I realized that "Throught the Looking Glass" was a flashforward I was stunned and thought it was awesome. But at the end of "Ji Yeon" when I finally realized that Jin's part was a flashback I just felt cheated.

I wasn't sure why at first. But now I think it has to do with Jin apparently being dead. He was never a favorite character of mine, but now I feel like everytime I see him I'll be expecting him to die.
