Benjamin "Ben" Linus
Benjamin "Ben" Linus is the leader of the Others on the Island. Ben arrived on the Island as a child, brought by his father Roger to work for the DHARMA Initiative. Ben takes orders from Jacob, and is the only person who visits and speaks with him. Ben's apparent goal is to keep the Island and its special properties secret from the outside world, and he goes to great lengths to achieve this.

Epigee Birth Control Guide
Barrier Methods for Women: Barrier methods are some of the oldest methods of birth control. Women in ancient Egypt used vaginal suppositories to prevent pregnancy. However, unlike the sponges of today and modern spermicides, Egyptian women concocted their vaginal suppositories out of crocodile dung and honey.
I read about it in medical journals and saw it on the history channel or something also.

A friend of mine the other day at lunch (oh my gosh - did I just reveal that I have "Lost" lunches with friends where we discuss the show? Yikes!) asked a legitimate question - instead of letting these pregnant women die on the island, why do they not perform an abortion to save the woman, since there is no hope for the baby. I am not stating one way or the other on my beliefs on abortion, so I hope no one else will either. But for the purposes of the show, why is that not an option if a woman gets pregnant on the island?

I too am NOT going to get into my personal beliefs about abortions.. For the sake of the show.. I was first wondering why they don't have a large supply of The pill or any other form of Birth Control.. Then Ben would not have had to worry about Alex anyway.. Being that it is such an important topic on the island you would think when a "girl" becomes of an age where she could even possibily get pregnant put her on birth control.. That way you don't have to worry about the what if's... I think you have a great idea here QUEENBEESTEPH.. Once they know the pregnancy isn't going to work if there are woman willing to try why not just save the mother until Juliette can do more testing and what have you.. Great Thoughts here..
I think part of the reason that they don't is Ben's push to fix the problem.. Remember when Juliette said that she wanted to take a woman off the island as a control.. She told Ben that they were running out of Mothers.. Ben's heartfelt response.. Then we'll have to find more mothers.. Wouldn't the abortions have saved Ben from having to find other woman who could become pregnant???

You know, Wednighter, your point is really great.... I didn't even think about "why is there not birth control on the island.? We can see by the shelves behind Juliet (the Other Woman) and in the Medical Hatch where Ethan took Claire, that the Others have access to loads of medicines and medical supplies (syringes and stuff), so why wouldn't there be some form of birth control, ESPECIALLY on an island where pregnancy equals a death sentence?
