Paulo

Paulo was one of the middle section survivors of Flight 815. Before the crash, he and Nikki Fernandez murdered Howard L. Zukerman and stole his diamonds. They spent most of their time on the island searching for these diamonds to the exclusion of almost everything else. A bite from a Medusa spider induced a death-like paralysis in Paulo. He subsequently died as a result of being buried alive while paralized.

I haven't had a chance to re-watch it, but my initial reaction to that scene was that Goodwin was bringing the sack lunch to Juliet, perhaps to invite her out on another picnic, and upon seeing Ben there hastily invented the idea that he had an extra lunch. Not that Ethan wasn't out sick, because Ben would obviously know if he was lying, but Goodwin had to cover himself, considering the situation.
Maybe?
