Sun and Jin?

At the beginning of the episode didn't Sun and Jin run off into the jungle with Jack and Juliet? We never saw them after that first scene... and there were others/smoke monsters lurking around in the rain...

I don't remember seeing them running off with them.

Jack said, "if you get their trail then yell out to me." Since he and Juliet went off together I am guessing he was talking to Jin and Sun? You're right though, we didn't see anyone else running off into the jusngle. Maybe it was a larger search party and he was talking to a big group of people.

You are right, John Locke - and Jin had Vincent with him.

I thought they had a large group of people from the beach looking for them.. That is when Jack said that if you find them yell out to me.. It was Sun and Jin in the beginning.. Sun translating for Jin that he saw them go into the jungle.. When Jack asked why he didn't say anything Jin said "I thought you said they were friends" That is when it appeared to me that they go a large group of people out looking.. Then never saw the rest of the search party

That is from the letter that Penny put in Desmonds book he wasn't going to read until he was going to die "Our Mutual Friend" She put that in his books sometime after they broke up and before he was put in prision by the military... She knew he would only go in that book at a moment of GREAT DISPEAR.. I know he found it when the hatch was about to blow up or when he heard Locke banging on the hatch when Boone died right this second I can't remember..

I was kind of thinking he went to prision following the events of The Constant, but I guess it had to be later than that right? They obviously rekindle their relationship between 1996 and before he went to prision.

BUT, what's your take on the scene (from waaay back) when Desmond is running in that stadium with Jack? As I recall Penny mentions something about not setting a date for the wedding... and they don't appear to be on the best terms with each other. Maybe its one of those "I love him but I'm marrying someone else cause he doesn't think he's good enough for me situations?"

WOW!!! I never thought about the fact they may have rekindled their relationship after they broke up before he went into the military.. I alwaysw figured that after he showed up for the phone number that was the last time they saw eachother but otherwise how would she have put that in his book unless she did when after she gave him his phone #.. Maybe when she moved out of Desmonds she "accidently" took his book, then made sure he got it back after he went to prison.. We know that Penny got engaged while he was in prision since when Whitmore picks him up when he gets out he tells him that along with Penny moved on since she didn't think that he cared about her.. Remember every letter that Des sent to her while he was in prison Whitmore intercepted..

At the stadium Des asks Penny when is the Wedding since Whitmore already told him that she was engaged..She says that they didn't set a date..Lets not forget when he asks her how she found him she replys: I have a lot of money Des and with enough money and determination you can find anyone... This may have forshadowed her finding the freighter and calling it all the time... Then she asks him why he never wrote her, asks if he read his beloved book (our mutual friend) I assume to know if he read her letter that is my sig yet... He says wait for me I'll be back in a year(after the constant wouldn't she have already known she would not hear from him til 2004?)(that some of the confusing time travel stuff) Then Penny asks what if you were back now.. He said he needs to win "his" (Whitmore) boat race.. He does if I remember right ask her to wait that year..

The stadium thing had to be about 2000-2001 or so right? He was gone for three years and they first talked again in 2004. Not that I want to steer this into time travel but... I think the 2004/island version of Desmond hadn't gone back to 1996 yet, therefore she didn't have the memory of the phone number incident.

So they met outside the monastery, they broke up in 96, at some point they got back together, then Des ended up in jail, they broke up again, they saw each other in LA before he left for the race, he dissappears for three years, then he calls her on Christmas.
